GPS not always show the logical routing

Fri Jan 04, 2013 12:53 pm

I've a chinese X-GPS model: GPS-S570HD MTK Win CE 6.0 system and runing iGO8 v8.3.5.193799.
The maps in use are
Europe 2011.12 TomTom all rights reserved [120102]
Israel 2012.03 GPS and More 2012 [120214]

During my last visite in Israel, my X-GPS not always show the logical routing, it makes me do every time an unneeded detour.
Anyone have an idea how to fix that?

Regards

Your problem has a familiar ring to it for me that is. I use my iGO 8.3.5.183522 and it works just fine. I don't use any other version. Same with Amigo, Primo 1.1 and Garmin XT. However, if I try with Primo 1.0, 1.2 or 2.0, the programs have me make 3 unnecessary right turns instead of making the 1st left turn to begin with. Try using my version of iGO.

TNX chas521,
I found yr thread Igo8-March 16, 2011. But it's a full prog + maps (383 MB).
I need only the prog. Is there a link for?

There are NO maps associated with my program download - only a basemap. It says so right in the post.

Did you download from one of the bottom mirrors? They are fast.

I personally don't think the program prepared or not prepared by Chas is the cause. Unless Chas has made some important changes to his exe concerning routing, I do not think it will calculate the route in a better way.

I give you my opinion about the detour:

When you realize that for calculating a route you need roads to connect A to B as well as the roads needs to be drivable and accessible (e.g. forbidden direction - real or not).
Therefor first check if the logical road you would take exist on the map.
Next check your route settings. E.g. a setting using unpaved roads (or another setting) can make lots of difference. That un/paved road can be a map issue, a - now - paved route can be known as an unpaved one because it was. Another map set (from another date or from the other mapmaker) can also solve things.

Last issue: choosing a fast route or easy route or short route makes a lot of difference. When theoretically the one route is just a minute faster or the other route a meter (or 100meters) shorter or ... Wel you get my meaning. Check that too.

TNX chas521? i GOT IT.°
@nabi: I allways use paved roads.
What do you mean about map set from another date or from other mapmaker? In fact I'm using Europe (country by country) 2011.12 TomTom all rights reserved [120102] and Israel 2012.03 GPS and More 2012 [120214] That's it.
On the other hand, I'm using about 3 or 4 POI files for Israel. Could be it the problem?

No, what I mean is that an existing road may appear but on a newer map, or sometimes even disappear on newer maps. Map faults do occur.
The same with one way streets. The map maker gets its info on hundreds of places and don't check every road locally.

Same with paved or unpaved. You may drive on a paved road, but when the map knows that road as unpaved, when you choose only to use paved ones, it will not take it. Period. I know some paved (in reality) roads that are (at least were then) unpaved roads on TeleAtlas maps. When I unchecked 'use paved roads only' the route was logical. Otherwise not.

POI files don't influence routing.

There a 2 major map makers: TomTom/TeleAtlas and Navteq. In Eastern Europe, there are some smaller firms, but their (only local) maps are more accurate.
By the way, when the same country maps are double or triple in the map folder, the newest and latest one is always used by iGO.

Hello nabi,
Sorry for the delay. But since yr last post I've used my GPS device and only today I notice that the [unpaved road] option is always checked.
Although, I unchecked [unpaved road] option, after a restart or switch ON switch OFF it become checked.
Is there a parameter in sys.txt to force that option unchecked?

Yes:

[route]
allow_unpaved=1

Thank yoy nabi,
Unfortunately, it doesn't help. Stilol the [unpaved road] option is checked, and still after unchecked [unpaved road] option, it become checked when I restart or switched OFF and ON.
WEIRD :crazy: :helpsos:

???

Check your save folder. In it is a file called system.ini and in that file there is a [route] section. What is in it?

Wed Jan 16, 2013 5:57 pm

here the content of my [route] section
[route]
allow_uturn="1"
correctness="90"
vehicle_type="0"
allow_toll="0"
route_type="SHORT"
allow_unpaved="0"
allow_ferry="0"
allow_charge="0"
cross_border_routes="0"

There you have the reason. Use Winrar to open system.ini and change allow_unpaved="0" to allow_unpaved="1"

Best is to copy the system.ini to your PC, rename the original system.ini to system.ini.old and modify the PC version using Winrar, preferably 4.1. TotalCommander is a very good alternative (which I always use). Then copy the modified system.ini back to your SD/device and see what it does. The issue should be solved. If, you can delete system.ini.old. If not, you can delete the new copy and rename the old one back.

The use of unpaved road is by default not checked. If it's always checked after every restart even if you uncheck it, it means there might be some overriding entry that sets it to checked. That entry in sys.txt should be :

[route]
allow_unpaved=1

If you don't want to use unpaved roads (ever), set the value to 0 as in :

[route]
allow_unpaved=0

If you want to be able to change this setting on your device and have the setting (use unpaved roads) stick, remove this entry in sys.txt.

TNX both for yr help.
Still same problem. It doesn't matter if I set the value to 0 or 1 as in sys.txt and/or save\system.ini :

[route]
allow_unpaved=

After a restart the Unpaved road option is checked.
