gps settings in sys.txt file in Igo 8.3??????????????????

Postby reefer » Sat Apr 23, 2011 9:48 pm

ok i sorted my issue. i downloaded chas521 - 'Working iGO 8.3 from my device', downloaded teleatlas uk from a different source and hey as soon as i put it on my sd card and placed it in my dvd/sat nav it started to install instantly. went thru the setup and everything is fine except for the gps. at the beginning it stated "Autodetecting GPS" but then showed "Looking for GPS signal" which is good i suppose cos according to fatboyfun and his post "Guide to install iGO Primo on devices with Windows CE core" this means that it has found the gps receiver. also reading on i came across nabi post "How to install iGO8 from scratch" and it stated i quote "It will also take some time for first GPS fix" so praying its the bad weather thats affecting the fix cos when i go to gps there are no bars and 0 satellites so hoping its just the initial fix cos i read somewhere it can take anything upto 10 mins even though i had route66 installed before i installed Igo and it would pick up a fix in secs. also i read if it comes up with that message "Autodetecting GPS" which its not presently then i would need to enter your GPS settings in sys.txt. ive copied my sys.txt file and pasted it below if someone could advise if the settings for gps is there as i wouldnt know where to look.

If it is there then i know its just the initial gps fix but ifi not can someone advise what it should be as i have looked at my route66 file to compare but its different to the Igo one.

Cheers

No, there is no entry for GPS there.
It would look like something this:
[gps]
port=2
baud=57600
source="nmea"

Your Port, Baud, and Source settings would be different. You need to determine what they are.
The "Source" entry may not be necessary.

Yurbuh Yuggly is quite correct. You need to find your port and baud rates. Maybe you can find them in Route 66? Incidentally, your sys.txt looks somewhat familiar. Also, what is the [/quote] in the last entry of the warning section? You don't need that - delete it.

Hi sorted my gps issue, added Yurbuh Yuggly format to input into my sys.txt file using my route66 settings port 2 baud 9600 and hey picked up a signal right away. thing is though i think i got the maps for uk which doesn't allow me to put the full 7 digit post code and having be googling bout this and that others have had the same issue and that I should look for the .fbl file like this UnitedKingdom7PPC.fbl but even when i did a general search to look for "full uk map postcodes for igo8.3 download" loads of results come up and the links are either dead or forums bout it and cant seem to find it anywhere. any recommendations peeps from where i can get it - i have checked the igo forums under maps but no success prob cos dont knw whether its the full one or not as well..

thanks

UK postcodes go in the city box in this format...

AA11 1AA

The space IS important!

i have been putting the correct format in cos in route66 i had to leave a space in between as well but in this iGo 8.3 for some reason if i wanted to put in for example lets say A1 1AA it'll allow upto A1 A then give you a list of the roads it could be then you still have to choose the house no??????

All the UK maps for iGO (Teleatlas or Navteq) contain postcodes, There are no extra files needed.

You said you downloaded the maps from a different source, I posted a link a while ago for UK maps in another thread, I'll see if i can find it.
