I have a philips 1800bt head unit and igo8. when installing it does all and then cannot link up to the gps rec.unit even with autodetect running. it scans all the ports and baud rates - but does not find anything
I know I used a gps reciever via mini usb connection.
I tried sys text changes - no difference.
What next please?

Delete your save folder and try again.

Assuming the hardware and cables are in full working order and your program is iGO8 and not Primo:
Go into the settings menu. Select GPS settings, deselect enable GPS and the autodetect option becomes available, click this to search through the various ports and bauds. If I am right, the search will be short because port 1 and baud 9600 will be found and the search stops there. So reselect enable GPS and it should work.

Hi.
I tried that several times. emptying the save folder etc.
Autodetect runs thru the options but finds nothing.
I am using a usb GlobalSat BU-353S4 USB GPS Receiver SiRF Star IV into the usb at the rear of the philips unit.
Maybe that is the wrong type of connector ? I did read about TTL and passive vs active? got confusing!
Any ideas ?

Has this GPS single ever worked with any software?

first time load on that unit. I have primo as well, but was advised that igo8 for the philips unit would be better. software seems to load, then says gps driver is missing. tried putting driver into the files - no joy.
am i putting it in the right place i wonder ?
any clues please?

Installing drivers on wince is tricky.
That's why there is always an official gps (or tmc) receiver where there is no internal one.
You can't just pick one at random and it works.
So does your device support your GPS receiver?

I dont know. I assumed it was universal and a generic one would work, so i got a globsat usb one and thought the unit would pick it up.
No ?

No, as the manufacturer's like to save as much storage as possible they only install drivers for one GPS or tmc dongle, this then becomes the official dongle for that device, and is much more expensive than the rest.
It quite possibly could be a common chipset inside it though, although not easy to find out.

any ideas on next steps then ?
it does say about no gps driver software when it autodetects and finds nothing having spooled thru all the ports/bauds..............
what is TTL - is that like a serial port ?

I did try to paste in the globsat drivers.
but where do I exactly put them - in the sys folder ??

Are the drivers for wince, and are they packed up as a .cab file?
