Help wanted with primo poi ( or lack of them )

Postby kaybee327 » Sun Dec 12, 2010 9:55 pm

Hi everyone am hoping that someone will help an old senile codger (was going to say git :o

Using

Igo Primo 8.5.11.155811
Teleatlas UK 2010.06 maps in Content-Map
Teleatlas UK 2010.06 poi in content-poi
My download poi in content-userdata-poi (have kix,kml,kns & kst files )
My download bmp in content-userdata-usericon

kmlpoi in data.zip deleted

sys.txt includes

[folders]
kmlpoi="storage card\primo\content\userdata\poi"
kmlicon="storage card\primo\content\userdata\usericon"
poi="storage card\primo\content\userdata\poi"

[poi]
multipoi=1
use_multi_poi_icon=1
sort_by_config=1
inherit_visibility=1
default_visibility_altitude=10000
userpoi_has_mypoi=1
enable_pois_before_080217=1
max_quicksearch=”yes”
deviation_divident=4
detour_interval_1=300
detour_interval_2=1000
detour_interval_3=5000

Problem is can't see poi (ta or mine) on

1. Maps
2. menu find - find places ( can see categories but all grayed out )
3. menu more settings map place markers (complete blank no poi categories at all )

Speed cams icons work fine

Any one any ideas please because I have run out

Thanks in advance

Keith,
This sort of problem comes up very often in my experience. First, I would like you to back up all the files in case something goes wrong. Then only put the map in content\map and the POIs [with extension of .poi] in content\poi. Delete all those other POI data files. Let's see what happens. Delete your save folder. Almost forgot. Completely shutdown your device and then restart.

delete this from your sys.txt:
[folders]
kmlpoi="storage card\primo\content\userdata\poi"
kmlicon="storage card\primo\content\userdata\usericon"
poi="storage card\primo\content\userdata\poi"
If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Chas521,

Thanks will give it a go and advise

Well have tried it and it works fine. Also added 1 group of my poi and it worked so added all and guess what ? It worked. Only thing is it still has default icons. Have edited kml as in other posts but cant see how to change them. Example below with change in red. Bmps with same name in content userdata usericon

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<kml xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:gx="http://www.google.com/kml/ext/2.2" xmlns:kml="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">
<Document>
<name>BP</name>
[color=red]<metadata><igoicon><filename>BP.bmp</filename></igoicon></metadata>[/color]
<Placemark>
<name>Dolans FS</name>
<description>+442866323564 </description>

Any ideas on this please

Keith,
Glad to hear that it worked. It's supposed to! I was trying to have you walk before you ran. Now that we have the basics completed, tell me exactly what you are trying to do and what is your goal. Are you trying to have icons match your POIs? McDonald's for when you see McDonald's, etc. That is something that can be done with the branding.zip. I'm just guessing until I hear back from you.

There was a branding.zip created for iGO last year by a member that had hundreds of individual icons. I'm trying to see if I can get that again. It was really good. BTW, what is the name of your GPS device?

Chas521

Yup thats me always running before walking - Became great at skiing trouble was forgot how to stop.

Thanks for the info and trying for me.

Yes objective is to get icon to match poi am using a Myguide 3100 maybe not the best device but got it for free so cant really complain.

Sorry but another question for you.

You say poi icons are in branding.zip. My copy only contains branding.ini, it is data.zip which appears to contain icons. So if I have icons in branding.zip and data.zip how does primo know which to use?

Honestly, I've been known to leap before I look also. It usually gets me into trouble and then I say, "Why did I do that?" You're going to have to trust me a little here. Since your device is currently working by the way we set it up, I don't think there's a great rush here. I have "feelers" out for that branding.zip and if it turns out good, we're going to have you install iGO 8.3 instead of Primo. Your device seems to have all the necessary requirements for iGO. The reason I say iGO is because that branding.zip works wonderfully there with a lot of different POI icons that can be applied and the nav program is really good also with a lot of personal options you can also apply. So with this in mind, I'm not going to answer your question. Hope you understand that part.

EDIT: I always seem to think of more things after I already posted. So..... Did you have to use an unlock for your program? If so, which one? Was it from here? Are you interested in trying iGO 8.3?

To use icons that match the POIs takes a lot of editing and time plus you really have to know what you're doing. I possibly ran across some information that might make it easier but it's for iGO and not Primo.

Thanks Chas521

No everything worked straight out of the can.

Have used Igo 8 before and have no problem with reverting. In your opinion is any version/release better than another?

I will wait and take advice this time

Yes Keith, this one http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?1837-Working-iGO-8.3-from-my-device But please, ONLY use the map in content\map and the POIs in content\poi - nothing nowhere else. In the sys.txt, I want you to change the numbers 480 to 320 and 272 to 240. Don't forget to save before exiting. Once you've done that, I will teach you some more things about iGO and some other things/places you can try.

Let me know how you make out. You should be fine as long as you know how to install it for your device. I guarantee you'll like it. Yeah, all mirrors would be greatly appreciated [if you can that is].

OK just sorting maps out does not like TA2010.06.

Links uploading to adrive (40 mins to go) will do 4shared after that.

TA maps should be fine - are you getting an error message? BTW, are you uploading my download or from your device with content and the sys.txt edits?
