Help Me With A Dinosaur Please Mio 310

Postby pitcritter » Fri Jan 16, 2015 12:38 am

A friend at work asked me to update his GPS. I told him that I'd give it a shot. When he brought it in, I relaized that I may have bitten off more than I could chew.

the unit is a Mio DigiWalker marked "Canada".

Is there any hope to do anything with this unit?

Hi,

There is no problem with the 310 and it can handle any IGO version you'd choose (besides win-6 versions).
The big advantage of this unit is that it has 1GB internal RAM and an expansion of up to 2GB SD card.
The disadvantage is that the 3.5 inch screen is quite small.
Considering all this - you can go ahead and it'll be fine.
First unlock (look at the unlock section) it and then install a version which holds a resolution of 320X240.
Have fun.

Plus you have to make an entry in the sys.txt for 320_240. Also, you have to unlock the Mio device to use the cracked program.

Thanks for the replies. This looks like it might be fun. Do you have any suggestions for a plain-jane version? With the small screen, bells & whistles are unnecessary.

A minimal version of iGO 8 would run nicely on a 320x240 screen.

I can access CE with the "two-finger method" so I believe that I'm close to ready. I'm going with xtyler's script method...wish me luck. I'll report back here. Thanks to all for the help so far.

OK, before I brick a box that's not mine...

I've backed up the original system totally.

My plan is to install igo8 in the folder "Windows CE/My Flash Disk/Miomap". That's the original file location.

I also plan to change the filename on igo8.exe to miomap.exe. That way, the original launcher shell will still find it.

Along with that, I'll change one line in sys.txt from

resolution_dir="480_272" ; "landscape" or "portrait"

to

resolution_dir="320_240" ; "landscape" or "portrait"

Does that sound like a plan?

NOPE! You backed everything up first. Good move. Now delete everything from the internal disk and copy/paste this download. It will unlock your device.
mio-device-unlock-f140/mio-unlock-modified-for-use-primo2-t8816.html Download from post #1 and read post #61.

Program: post130401.html#p130401 post #11 Goes on the SD card in a folder called igo8.

In the program's sys.txt, change 480_272 to 320_240.

Let us know the results.

Mio C310 is WinCE 4.2. Dlls. must be changed to get TTS. I have them. Tell me when you've done everything else above and added the necessary contents. Also, that it's working OK. BTW, where is home?

Wow. Thanks for the detailed instructions.

I'm downloading now. I'll report back once I've gone ahead with these steps.

Home is Niagara Falls, but I spend a fair bit of time in South Florida.

Minor setback...

Failed to open file: mio/320_240/loading_c310.bmp exiting application

When I look in the ui_ig08 directory, I only see 480_272 800_480. Is that my problem?

Also, is there a way to change the resolution on the lock screen? I only see the top left corner (about 2/3).

Edit...10 minutes later.

I did find the data/ui_igo8/320_340/ folder.

There was a loading.bmp there. I changed it to loading_c310.bmp and re-booted, but got the exact same error.

Is the error maybe with the "mio" part of the path?

Actually, it turns out I was having a PEBKAC error.

When you install iGo8, but try to launch MioMap, things don't go well.

I've still got to play around a bit, but I think I'm over the major hurdles.

I'll report back tomorrow.

Looks like it's working well thanks to the hard work of the members here.

Now, unfortunately, I've run out of space on the 2GB SD card. I dont have room for any DEMs, and only POIs for a couple of states.

I've deleted the Kikker skin to free up some room.

Is there anything else worth deleting? I'm looking at some of the other resolution folders, but they don't look particularly big.

First of all, I also live in NY. Second of all, that's my program setup to work 100%. Don't mess with it unless you ask me first. Third is why I use a 4GB [now more] SD card. 2 GB is really too small. There is more that I can do to the program. FYI, the Kikker skin is one of the smallest and best skins out there.

If you have questions, I'd appreciate it if you ask me first before doing it. Also, do you know that my unlock updated your MioMap 3.2 to 3.3? Do you know how to use it?

Chas,
I really appreciate your help so far and especially the work you've put into the unlock.

I have no intention of messing with your unlock. I'm looking to save space in my iGo installation.

You mention that my MioMap is now 3.3. I understood that MioMap was now gone. I guess that means that I DON'T know how to use it.

From my understanding of the 310x, the max SD card is 2GB. I'd happily go bigger if it'd let me.
