Highway exits not announced - Primo 2.4

Postby HiroboFreak » Sat Feb 09, 2013 2:13 am

Hi guys,

I'm running Primo 2.4 & I'm not getting announcements for when to exit highways.
The signpost pops up with a Ding, but no voice instruction.

Any ideas on how to resolve this??

Thanks.

Exit numbers should be map related.
What map?

I am in Europe too and in the countries I drove around, I have always seen the exit numbers.

Navteq Portugal? What happens when you use TeleAtlas maps? Or Navteq Q2 or Q3?

Hi nabi,

I have tried 2 Australian voices: Jennifer (natural) & Karen TTS

I used to use UK Kate & never noticed the problem when using that one. I will try Kate again & see how that goes for now, however ideally I would like to use the Australian ones.

Thanks.

When Kate announces the exits and Karen doesn't, it must be she don't know the command line.

Make a backup of the voices.
Using Winrar 4.0 or lower (!! 4.20 will destroy the file rarring again !!) or use TotalCommander (works for me) open the voice.zip file (e.g Voice_TTS-nua-eng-au-f1-lua-dri40-vssq5f22.zip which is Karen). Now open the folder i18n. In it is a file called "dictionary.voice". These are - AFAIK - the voice commands. With a text editor (notepad) you can make changes to it. Howto do this will be more clear when you see and study the contents.
Maybe you need to compare with Kates dictionary.voice file to see what voice commands are there for exits.

Also this information by Yurbuh Tuggly may be useful : http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?6958-Complete-Nuance-Primo-1.2-and-2.0-TTS-Pro-dictionary.voice-file-for-Driver-Alerts.

I was unable to find anything related in the dictionary file, however there is an extensive list of commands/parameters in the config/config_database.lua file.

I've had a bit of a look through & it seems comparable to other voices so (as a n00b) I've decided not to attempt any experiments. :bomb_mini:

Hopefully someone with more experience has a similar issue & manages to resolve it. :)

Maybe one of our Australian members can help out. Bazzle? Someone else?

Did some more testing tonight & for the simulated route that I used, both Jennifer & Brandon (natural) worked as expected but Karen (TTS) definitely didn't.

Not having TTS isn't exactly a deal breaker, but it's great to not have to to look at the screen & simply follow voice instructions.

Any help appreciated.

I have not extensively used the TTS Pro (assuming you got them from one of my downloads) AU voices, but I have with both the UK and US English versions, I get all appropriate voice alerts/exits, and I can tell you that the dictionary.voice files in each/any of the English voice files are identical, so the problem is not there. If there are any differences in any of the config/*lua* files for the AU voices, I could not say, but try one of the UK TTS Pro voices and see if it solves your problem. If so, the config/*.* files from the working UK voice(s) can be relatively easily transplanted into the AU voice file(s). The reason you should use a UK voice file for this instead of the US voices, is the difference in commands for metric units...US voices do not contain any metric-specific references.

Oh and PS:
If you got the voice files/engine from somewhere other than one of my downloads, there could be differences/errors in countless places, and I may not be able to help with that as I have no copies of voices from other places.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

Yes the download came from this site.

I'll try a UK TTS voice & see how that goes.
From memory the AUS voices are much smoother/clearer than the UK ones that's why ideally I'd like to stick with the AUS ones.

Yes, do that and report back. If it works, I may be able to 'massage' the AU voice(s) into working the same for you. Maybe.

PS. I actually (still) find the UK 'Daniel' to be the most realistic TTS voice I have ever heard.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.
