Postby navboy » Sat Jun 15, 2013 1:40 pm

Can someone help me out with this one please.....
I delete all POI's so that my system (icn520) would run better, but I would like to replace POI's (petrol station) I have downloaded them and put them into content/userdata/poi restarted it and set them up, they're are showing on the map, but are showing with old icon (its like a green tree) which I do not want, I change the icon to "P" petrol sign but it keeps coming up with the so called tree icon, I have delete backup, still the same, what am I doing wrong, and how do I make the right icon come up please.

its for igo8 8.3.5.183522

this is what I have in system file about poi

[poi]
poi_show_all_btn=1
poi_labels=1
show_poi_boundingrects=1
show_poi_areas=1
enable_pois_before_0802017=1

is there something in here that I need to change also.

POI icons are in the branding.zip. They are .bmp format. You can also try changing the =1 in the sys.txt to =0 and see what happens. I've never tried it so it's gonna be a hit and miss on your part. Please post your results.

EDIT: Also look in the data.zip.

Try this: The .kml files must be in content\userdata\poi folder. Custom icon in content\userdata\usericon folder. Then try manage POI. You can always delete if it doesn't work.

Make's no diff changing =1 to =0 old icon still showing.
I delete the poi's in the common folder to see, and yes the google earth icon this time showed on the map, but when I went to change it the system crashed, so I put them all back in, now goggle earth icon gone, default icon back......again (that pain of a thing which looks green and blue), so it has to be inside that folder somewhere...!

OK but where do I get the petrol fuel pump icon from..?

I went onto google and downloaded a pic downsized it and made it into BMP put it into content\userdata\usericon started it up again, and still no go........when you do go into the manage icon's and it gives you diff icon's, the icon that keeps coming up is on page 39.

There are 2 options for selecting the desired icon.

1. Incorporate the icon in branding.zip
2. Add this line to the kml-file

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<kml xmlns="http://earth.google.com/kml/2.0">
<Document><name>petrol fuel pump</name>
<!-- This Icon-Bitmap will be used for the category petrol fuel pump-->
<metadata><igoicon><filename>content\userdata\poi\petrol fuel pump.bmp</filename></igoicon></metadata>
etc.

There has to be a easier way then that surely..!

If you go into menu-manage-poi-kml-edit it will give you option to change the icon, you can pick one from around 760 icons, when you picked one you can see it there in the poi icon visibility distance window, but when you go back to the map, its not there, so question is why not..?.
I believe the above is a little too much for someone like me do without the right software, is it not..?

That is correct you can select an icon from branding.zip. This was in fact my first suggestion and if you are satisfied with the existing selection of icons, there is no need to add your special icon to branding.zip.

Once the POI is activated it must be visible. Do you see the POI when you are making a new route by selecting a POI? In other words can you navigate to one of your special gasstations? If so, the POI will be visible on the map

In the kml-file the gasstations have coordinates. If those coordinates refer to a far away spot the POI will only be visible when you are around that spot.

@navboy

Download this branding.zip and replace it with yours. Backup yours first just in case. This one has MANY more icons.
