No problem, FFR \content\poi is for iGO poi's (.poi) and \content\userdata\poi is for 3rd party poi's (.kml)

This thread (post#1) explains the procedure involved, it's a bit of a faff but works.

I take it I just change my kml file to txt to edit then back to kml. If so its not happening. I am trying this first on the igo8 for the pc so not done it on the sat nav yet. could that make a difference?

Put the McDonald's icon in content\userdata\usericon
Edit the McDonald's.kml file to include the name of the icon, add or edit the following if it exists...

<metadata><igoicon><filename>McDonald's.bmp</filename></igoicon></metadata>

Restart iGO
You may need to go into place markers and turn on the poi to be able to see it while driving

OK I still cant get this to work and here is an odd think. If I open the kml to add that line of text and close, rename back to kml it does not work. I need to re insert the original. Now I said add as I cant find the line to edit. No doubt there is two and confused.

Anyway. I could not even change the icon in manage icons folder. What I had to do was go to ui_igo8/icons/poi and edit the file in there with this line

[McDonalds.McDonalds]
$poi_brand_McDonalds.spr 101
$poi_brand_McDonalds.spr 101
poi_brand_McDonalds.spr 101

and add/rename the icon in the common folder. This allowed me to change it in the manage icons. However on the map still no joy. What it is shown is an icon from an old European camp site location kml what got deleted a while back. I have also deleted the save folder many a time so kind of head scratching. What I did notice is the installed poi's you have a tick box to save settings to sub folder. In the kml poi's this is greyed out.

Pay attention that "McDonalds" IS NOT EQUAL to "McDonald's".

I did change them all from McDonald's to McDonalds. I put it all in primo to see of it was an igo8 issue but no joy. Not working in either.

OK. Forget the McDonalds just now as this may be connected and I am missing something. In igo8

Manage/POI and edit one. Say you edit restaurant or petrol station as one must be close to your house. Turn them on and the icon between rename and remove, If you click on that you see pages of icons. If I change that and reboot it will not change on the screen. Is this meant to change the icons and if so why does mine not as this may be my problem with not getting my McDonalds one to work.

Igo 8.3.1.59883 if this helps

Sorry to add my cents, but you should seriously consider upgrading your current iGO8 program. My program not only will give you the icons you need but I will show you how to add many more.
Use the Verzende link. Upl.me is now dead.

program-data-zip-branding-zip-license-f83/igo8-183522-march-2011-t15455.html#p126544
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

Sorry I meant to come back and edit. That build is the desktop version. I also have 8.3.5.163522 what is also not liking icon changes. I will try your version chas if the download page ever opens up. I got part1 ok but the other two don't like me, page not found.
