iGO 8.3.5.183522

iGO 8.3.5.183522

Postby camaro69 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 12:29 am

While I wait for an answer for my upgrade to a HD unit, I downloaded Chas521 IGO8 package. iGO 8.3.5.183522

Do I just need to add maps, POI's...etc and adjust the resolution to 800x480?

This is in case I can't use my old IGO8.3.2.

Thanks

BTW...I'm curious, would it be easier to copy/paste his .sys into my IGO8.3.2. to get my software working on the new unit?

You're gonna like that program. Backup your 8.3.2 just in case. Yes, you will need to adjust the resolution to 800_480. Read this http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?7708-Help!-Installing-iGO-8.3-Picture-goes-all-white-and-rolls!&highlight=chas521 post #15 Yes, you need to add the content. No sys.txt pasting. Just edit what is necessary for your device. The program is complete.

Hi Chas521...long time no hear and it's my fault.

Once my system is up and running I usually don't read to much about the software, but since I have a new system, I'm back.

I looked over post #15 from your link. You say no copy paste into the .sys file, but then you say to edit.

So should I just edit the .sys file for the 800_480 interface or use the one in your IGO8.5 package that I downloaded?

Also, can I just edit my old .sys to make it 800_480 and hopefully it will work. Thought it would easier to get it working.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The other problem I'm having with the IGO8.3 that came with the system is that the nav and bluetooth voice (people talking to me) is very low. I even have the system set to max but it's still very low. That's another reason why I want to go back to my older IGO8 or try someone else's...and hope that it raises the voices.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I also prefer to hang here as we're both local..NJ/NY. A number of other people who I talk to that are helpful are on the other side of the world and there's always that 12-24 hours delay in getting a respone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are port baud settings done by region (location) or my manufacturer unit?
Thanks for everything.
Sorry but this has to be quick. Have to go. You don't have to copy/paste the old sys.txt. You can use the one in the new program, just edit the entries for your device.
That's ok, as I'm still waiting for the mini sd card to be delivered (dont want to screw up the one that I have even though it's not working to my satisfaction). Figured it's always good to have a spare card.
Thanks
In the meantime I did move maps, POI's, Phoneme, buildings and some other items from my IGO8.3 to your IGO8.5.
First it's great to hear from you. Hope all is well. It's been quite a while since the old days. Incidentally, the '69 Camaro was one of my favorite cars. The younger guys/gals here really missed something. Plus I really liked the '69 GTO. I have a funny story about that car but I'll save it for another time.
Igo 8.3.5 uses the same content as 8.3.2. I think that you'll find the TTS voices a little louder also. It installs as the old one did. I uploaded the program to be "out of the box" except for some individual device entries in the sys.txt that you have to include as well as your individual content. BTW, new Navteq NA maps [Q3 2011] were just [or very soon] posted here if you're interested.
Sorry, but I don't use Bluetooth. Maybe someone else here can help you with the volume.
Please post as to how you make out. Thanks.
Someone else is telling me that the speaker hook up might not be correct since I do hear the voices but it's very low. I might have another shop pull the system out on Saturday to look it over and see if the wiring is correct.
In the meantime once I get my new mini sd card delivered I'll try your IGO8.
And once everything is up and running, I'll look for the updated maps.
Also, what about the port and baud settings. Are they set for region or manufacturer of unit? I get a weak signal and might need to move the antenna. I did do an auto detect and it came up with 1 57600. If I remember correctly the unit in my other car (different unit) was set at 2 9600.
What do you mean by this? What device entires need to be included?
Thanks again.
I mean the entries that might be specific to your particular device. The sys.txt you downloaded with my program is kinda only generic. But if the program works with my sys.txt then nothing really needs to be done by you and then just enjoy your device.
Bluetooth is VERY device-specific. There is no "this works for everything" solution when it does not work.
That it appears his only problem is volume, that makes it even more device-specific---especially in a DIN unit.
That he seems to have multiple volume issues leads me to believe that it may be an installation/wiring issue.
thanks to Yurbuh Tuggly
I PMed you also camaro69.
PM duly noted and I fully understand. Won't happen again.
Now for some new excitment.
I relocated the antenna from within the dash to the top of the dash near the middle of the windshield and getting a strong gps signal. So that one big problem has been resolved.
In regard to the wiring potential problems, not sure I want to bring the car back to the same shop and another local shop didn't want to touch it once they heard it was a chinese aftermarket. They wanted to sell me another unit....I'm trying to avoid that. Unless you know someone local who wants to take a look at the wiring it's not going to happen.
When I tried to dial out or getting calls the voice volume from the other party was very low. To low to understand the conversation while I was driving.
Part of the problem might be that I have a GM with Onstar/bluetooth and it's overriding the newer system. When I hit the steering wheel button to connect for bluetooth, it's connects with the factory bluetooth and not the new system. I can dial out using the newer system touch screen, but again the other parties voice is very low.
So I came to this conclusion. Just going to use the factory bluetooth and not the newer system bluetooth. While not as fancy looking on the screen it does work and the calling in voice is sufficent for me to hear. Unfort the fonts on the factory GM system reminds of of 1990 PC fonts. Sort of like the games in my old Atari 2600. But hey it works.
Somehow playing around with the nav (maybe because I now have a strong signal) the nav voice is louder. Not as loud as I like, but I can hear it.
Chas521, you mentioned that your voices were a little louder in your IGO8 package. Once I get my new sd card I'll install your IGO8.5 and maybe the voices will be even louder so my old ears can hear...LOL
Keep the faith and thanks again.
Finally got my mini-sd card and loaded Chas521's IGO8.3.5.
Did the search/browse to IGO8.exe and received the error.
"Program application database cannot be found"
So what am I missing?
You just need to tweak the sys.txt.
How to solve error messages.
I copied and pasted Chas .sys file.
I'll read your post and hopefully can tweak it.
Ok, this what my 1st 2 lines look like
[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"
In my older non-HD IGO8 .sys it shows the lines as
[folders]
;app="%SDCARD%/iGO8.3.2"
So should I just change the IGO8 to IGO8.3.5
