Hi all
Does anybody know if it is possible tu run IGO8 from Flash Disk with skin located on the SD card?
I have IGO 8 running from FlashDisk.
I would like to use a skin (Dimka) but my MIO MOOV 380 can not be connected thru USB to PC (no way to do it. I renamed the starting application... stupid mistake...)
How can i force IGO to look for skins on the SD card?

Would it not be the simplest solution to place the whole content folder on sd?
Then in sys.text:


[folders]
content=”Storage Card/content”

Of course the name of the storage card and the path should be correct.

igo will look for "content" on "secondary root" of your device. By default, this secondary root is the folder igo/content on your device's SD card (actually, it is /[storage card]/igo/content where [storage card] is the name of your SD card on your device. Just make sure there is NO [has_secondary_root = 0] entry on the [folders] section of your sys.txt.

So if there is no folders section on your sys.txt, simply creaate a folder named igo on your sd card. Inside the igo folder, create another folder - content, and inside content, create another folder - skin, and put your skin files (zip) in that folder. igo will then find it when you go to switch skins. Of course, your skins should be compatible with your device's resolution.

yes, i renamed the file AppStartupSec.exe.
In sys.txt there is no [folders] section.
can not change sys.txt or any file in Flash (no usb connection)
Now, as kamoteka says, IGO should look in the SD card for folder IGO\content\skin and if there is a skin.zip there then IGO will offer it in settings.

If you can get the skin installed, setup Total commander as an external programme, that will give you file system access to undo the changes you made

Exactly, This was my idea...
But now i tried it and it is NOT working! Igo is not offering me the skin (dimka) to choose from.
I created igo\content\skin folder in the SD card and put the skin inside. But no skin offered in IGO settings.
I tried with folder IGO8 but sajme result

Did you delete the save folder? (or rename it to save_old)
In case iGO looks in the save folder for the location of its content. That is if Kamoteka is correct. I always thaught iGO looked in its root (where the data.zip and .exe are located) first. (==> http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?962-How-To-s-Tutorials-and-Tweaks&p=2469 )
In my opinion, you need a way to change either sys.txt OR to get the device starting and running iGO from the sd completely. It's always easier to make changes to sd, no need to connect the device to PC anymore.

Short answer: no.

Sometimes opening the unit and shorting two of the pins near the switch forces usb mode but it doesn't always work there's always the risk of damage.

I advise to ask Mio nicely to see if they can help

I can not delete or rename or change files... no USB...
The IGO8 is running on start (and i can not change it) from flashdisk
only thing i can do is to put skin on SD hoping IGO will find it and can then select this skin from within IGO and from this skin it is a free way to windows explorer!

The only way I can think of is to hard reset the device - see the manual which button to press/hold - (or let the battery drain completely) and hope the firmware does something to revive the USB . But I do fear it's a no-go.

OR

Possibly flash the firmware? Mostly the procedure sounds simple enough : download and copy to sd, then start up after a hard reset. If that is valuable for each device. I have no experience with this and do NOT guarantee anything.

But it's up to you.
I guess Mio can solve it, when you pay. The device probably not the newest, is it worth the cost?

there might be a way. you can put unlock on your sd card (like miopocket[Please Register or Login to download file] ). reset the device. when the device start it might run the unlock and then you get option to use total commander and put the skin in the igo\content\skin folder on the flash disk.

Hard reset does not help... draining the battery does not help...
I will try the flashing method before asking Mio for help...
