iGo & hnr files

Trying to understand the hnr files. It's my understanding that these files provide extended house number functionality as in providing numbers on both sides of the street (assuming you are looking for address 2045 it would also show house numbers on the other side of the street).

Questions:

1) I thought this was a TomTom functionality or is it in both?

2) From what I read you need a "housenrs.dat" file which isn't present in the latest download.

Can someone perhaps educate me? TIA

HNR files within the iGO world have nothing to do with house numbers, They contain pre-processed routes for long distances, ie, between countries, This is just to speed up route calculation for journeys across Europe or the USA for example.

You must have every map file for all the regions the hnr file covers otherwise it won't be used.

House numbers are either in the maps or they are not, there are no extra files for this.

I know, I was just trying to research what hnr was and came upon it. Then there are files that are called tomtom for igo which are not really tomtom at all. So it is confusing. But thank you for setting me straight! Now if I could only figure out why my altimeter isn't working...

Those file are called TomTom because TomTom now owns the original company (TeleAtlas).
Since that causes confusion: Look out when you download maps etc that the files are intended for iGO and not TomTom devices !

In what way are the names different between same release dates for TomTom and iGo (other than the fact that they are in different forums)?

Did you also know that TomTom maps for TomTom devices go with the navcore and have a collection number, like 885.4087?

Igo maps don't have that sequence but are specified in a time raster and a iGO 'navcore' which is recently R3.
I do not know the exact name for every mapset, more it looks like the uploader names the map and other files himself. Like this: iGO R3.Europe.TeleAtlas.MAPS+POIs/HNR/FTR.2011.12(Q4) . Notice the 2011.12 which is the time stamp (Q4 is a NavTeq way of time set). Also notice the "iGO R3" in the name. Sometimes the uploade says "TomTom TeleAtlas maps for iGO R3". Or something different. Never the iGO mapset contains a xxx.xxxx number like TomTom maps for TomTom.

Conclusion : it helps to read comprehensively !

To put it simpler:
Siberian, you have an iGo product that will use any maps released for iGo 8.3 or higher (it would now be difficult to find any maps that were NOT "R3").
Stop looking in TomTom forums for bits. Nothing there will work on your current device.
New maps for iGo products are generally released by the Quarter for each year. But they are delayed before they get here...for example, Q4 2011 are the latest currently available. Q1 2012 will be the next...whenever they become available. SOMETIMES an entire 'quarter' is skipped, so the next MAY be Q2 2012.
Newer maps are often better, sometimes not.
ALL maps contain errors regarding the actual physical roads. If a new road is built in a city, or an older road modified, those changes might not show up in a GPS map for months (Quarters), or years, or never.

Thank you, I didn't know about the collection number. As to hnr, I was using google to find what the heck it stood for which is where I found a link. I wasn't "looking in the tomtom for bits", I was looking for an explanation.

Honestly, I don't really know/remember what the letters stand for exactly either. I suspect the "R" is "Routes" or "Routing".
If anybody does know, please refresh my failing memory.
BUT, I believe HNR files only work on Primo versions anyway, which you don't have, so don't worry about them or waste any extra space on your device or SD card by putting them there.

What exactly do you mean with that?
There is 4 hnr files for east and for west europe. They are not in use if I miss even one country (fbl) in my GPS, or I just have to have hnr and fbl for country I want to rout to be in use?

Correct.
If even one *.fbl file is missing from the 'set' (Europe, Western Europe, etc) on your device, the *.hnr files for that set become useless, are ignored, and just take up space.
