Sorry buddy but that's kinda a hit and miss. However, you did say not always. The save folder has the user's options stored and some of those options become overriding when starting the program. So although you might not have to delete the save folder, it's always a good idea. You can rename the save folder to something else as well -oldsave, as an example - instead of deleting it. This way you still have any options that you wanted to save. A new one is created the next time you start/end your program.

Alright. So I tried port splitter today. Im not really sure if it'll work or not, or if i set it up right.

One question- does port splitter INSTALL itself into WinCE? or just as a program when you run the SD card?

All of a sudden, it seems I'm not getting a GPS lock as fast, and I'm really afriad i messed up my device. There's really no way to get into WinCE on my Eonon to be able to delete any programs or registry keys, so is there a way to get rid of Port Splitter?

I did a hard reboot, so maybe that helped, and i DO get a GPS lock. I also did a fresh install of iGo Primo 2.4, so maybe that's got something to do with it.

Very few programs install to WinCE but some of them may save registry settings, however you might not have a device with a permanent hive. If you don't, then your WinCE will reset on every reboot. I doubt you've messed up your device.

Oh, and yes, there will be. There's always a way of getting into WinCE ;) Like Windows, it's very easy to configure. If need I can send you a few programs that will help you out in that regard.

If the port splitter isn't running, as in you don't actually see the window, then it won't be working. It's a very simple program, it doesn't affect your GPS in any way, it just takes the current GPS co-ords and maps them to two virtual ports, it will have no impact on the GPS performance.
If you did a hard reset then you've most likely deleted all of your GPS data which takes minutes rather than seconds to build. When your device is first switched on, the first lock can take anything from 1 - 5 minutes if you are covered with trees, or by a building etc, but this is because it is building a database of GPS information. It is called a cold start (Google it). After then, you will do warm starts, which use the already stored GPS data to speed up the process of getting a lock. This can get it down to between 5 - 20 seconds. Depending on your device, it might even do hot starts which will take anything from 2 - 4 seconds. I doubt it does a hot starts all the time though, but it might if you've switched your ignition off, then switched it back on 20 seconds later perhaps. Mine will do a hot start for about 5 minutes after I switch my ignition off, then goes back to a warm start.

Portsplitter does save some registry entries, but if you don't run portsplitter.exe they will be ignored.

Ah I see. How would I be able to tell if it is a actually saving the reg entries?

The whole reason I want to run port splitter , is because the internal clock on the unit can be synced via GPS. When it isn't, the time doesn't like to save the Am or PM state which is annoying. When I boot up igo, however, the time stops syncing and freezes, leading me to believe its running the same port as igo and being blocked.

Would changing the baud rate down from 54700 (I think that's what it is now) to the 4800 that wince info said it was fix this? When I had kudos navigator on (came stock) I didn't seem to have the syncing issues which I don't understand at all.

I'll definitely post my sys txt later, and thanks for helping me through that freak out haha.

Edit: how do you get to the GPS info within igo 2.4? Like that' shows signal strength and whatnot? I can access the page when I have no reception by clicking the icon in the top left, but it disappears once locked.

If you open portsplitter again and its settings are still there then they're saved in the registry, bear in mine the registry may be reset at switch off.

Two applications cannot use the same GPS port at the same time on wince, unless there is some intermediate driver like on win mob, either kudos sets up its own virtual port, in which case portsplitter will help, or it sets the clock itself.

I think iGo can set the clock can't it?

I believe only once at first satellite lock.

It has it's own clock (iGo), but so does the unit. there's a separate option in the "Time" menu to set the unit's clock via GPS, so I don't think it interfaces with iGo or Kudos. Maybe i'm wrong.

This is a strange one alright, I have never seen a clock stop when a GPS app is started.

If you're able to turn off the GPS time sync what happens? hoping it just runs by itself.

if i turn off gps sync, the clock SORT of works by itself. it retains the right time, just not the AM/PM status. May just suck it up and turn it to 24HR time lol..

Start portsplitter
Top window is where it can find the GPS port, so enter port 2, note, you don't enter the baud rate anywhere, it just passes whatever comes through.
In the bottom window you add ports, I don't think you can reuse the input port, might be wrong on that, so put in (for example) port 1 and port 3
Set iGO to port 3, hopefully the GPS time will pick up port 1, you may need to play around with the output ports

Things to note:
You will have to run Portsplitter before iGO each time you restart, this can be automated with mortscript.

Portsplitter will open a window, and it will remain open while it's active.

Portsplitter saves everything in the registry, so if your device loses the registry on switch off, you'll have to redo the settings each time, it can also be automated with mortscript.

The important thing here is to get it working, then we can worry about automating it...

So I disabled the auto time zone on Primo and set it manually, and now it syncs!!

Now I'm having an issue after installing bread recipe from another thread where if I back out of igo on my head unit, and go to radio, the system launcher (launcher.exe???) crashes, but igo still works. This only seems to happen when there is an active route set.

I can't really tell what's changed in the bread recipe, but I know it did fix the issues it was supposed to.
