No. Unless there's a unknown Symbian version of iGO around.

However I once put Garmin Mobile XT on that phone, it was slow but usable.

Hey Fatboy, so I got the nokia GPS/Maps on my phone. 5800.

Since you had that phone, do you reckon I should uninstall the nokia one and try the garmin? would it better? just as a reliable backup, I usually have my GPS with me but you never know. what are the instructions/install files? :P

PS: Is there a place you would point me towards about modding my phone, themes, music player, cooked firmwares and related discussions? I am stuck on the V52 firmware as well, wont let me upgrade to V60. Its an old phone I know but I am a technology dinosoure, Just have this to txt, listen to music and make calls, nothing too fancy.

Thanks again man, always appreciated your input. :023:

It wasn't my phone, I only installed it, it did work, but it was slow.

Other people recommended using a Bluetooth GPS module

The installation is similar to other phones, copy the Garmin folder to the micro sd card, and then install the .sis file.
Can't remember if you needed to generate the license or not, like you do on wince.

I never had a Symbian phone.

It's quite old now so finding active links is going to be a problem.

I do still have a backup image on my file server, I will find some time later or tomorrow to upload it...

These are the installation files i used...

[Please Register or Login to download file] (70MB - No maps)

But it was several years ago when i did it, so this might not be the correct procedure!

You may not need the image folder, it's just a backup from that phone.

Go to our Garmin map section and download the maps you need, Tip go for City Navigator (CN)
The map needs to be named gmapsupp.img
You need to run the installation files on the PC which creates the required files to go on the phones SD card
Put the map in the Garmin folder, in the image folder is an empty file renamed gmapsupp.img as a guide
Make sure these files are in the root of the sd card
Then install the .sis file on your phone
Run the Garmin app, and find the Card ID in "About" (i think, it was the same procedure as the WinCE version)
Use the keygen to generate the license number and add that number into the file sw.unl as text.
Re-run the Garmin app and find the setting for GPS and select use internal/built-in etc

That should be enough to get it working, however i remember it took ages to get a satellite lock, and it was quite slow in operation.

For Mobile XT you can only use the maps, the other files aren't compatible.

Locked maps require unlocking with a small tool before use.

Download the map, rename it to gmapsupp.img, copy it to the app files root folder.

You can combine multiple maps into one file by using gmaptool

This is where my knowledge of Garmin ends, p!xeldealer can take over.

Hey fatboy, I got it working on my phone used your guide and files and then read some more stuff I found on some Malaysian bloggers blog. Although it said "application not compatible with phone continue anyway?" I did manage to install it by selecting yes and it runs very well. I generated the key file too. However I am having problems with the map. weird. it wont let me select NZ it says select state and shows Australia, while the map is supposed to be Australia and New Zealand I cant seem to find any options to change it to NZ.

no was 1 single file. but showed australia only.

So i downloaded the maps from here and deleted the nz australia maps (NZ Open maps) [Please Register or Login to download file] , which seems to have solved my problem. now however how do i get the pois and other stuff in this?

I'd hate to see iGo running on a Symbian phone. Most Symbian devices haven't got anywhere near the resources required to run iGo.

Navcan I owned a 5800 pal, are you absolutely nuts? Considering anything other than the OEM GPS software is ridiculous. I assume it's still Nokia Maps (was Ovi Maps when I used it) but it was amazing, probably one of the best Sat Nav software packages I've ever seen on a mobile phone. Google Maps is still nowhere near and while Garmin XT is okay, it's a bit of a dog, **** its way through your battery life and memory.

Use Nokia Maps man, unless it's drastically changed since I use it's probably the best Mobile Mapping software you can get. Free live traffic, free downloadable maps, excellent routing and POI's.
Absolute no brainer!!!!

Speedcams can be loaded with a programme called POILoader, you can get this free from the Garmin site.
It imports asc files and creates a single file which you put into the poi folder.

Normal poi's should be a part of the map.
