Then you should add the correct values for gps yourself, values which I suppose you don't know.
Start with deleting the semicolons so the lines are recovered
[gps]
port=1
baud=4800
set_messages=0
First you could change the "1" and the "4800" with "auto" which is about the same as what you have done, but one never knows.
Oh, important: keep deleting the save folder completely to avoid wrong values in it that can overwrite your settings.
When that doesn't help: You have no choice but trying a bunch of port and baud settings.
A utility like "GPS Spy" or "GPSscanDebug" can be useful here (try google) This utility will find the correct settings in an instant), other wise you have to manually change the values until you find the correct one.
Port is 1 to 9. Possible baud settings are 75, 110, 300, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600 and 115200 though the range 4800 to 57600 is common, the others are rare.
A tip : try PORT=2 and BAUD=4800 or 9600 first, these values are very common.
Start logically with the first one, then wait, then delete the save folder and try another setting and wait, etc... until you finally hit the right one. Try to set the baud rate as high as possible.
When the connection is working, but not stable, the baud is wrong and setting a value lower helps most of the times.
