Igo Primo does absolutely nothing (problem)

Postby RubRi » Tue Jun 09, 2015 10:32 pm

Hey guys,

I have been using a Rage GPS (By chinavasion) on my motorcycle for quite some time now. Last year I pulled out a memory card with a working version of Igo primo to update it with a newer version and some fresh maps. But since then I have not been able to make Igo work again. I have installed over 20 different downloads of Igo Primo but can get nothing to work.

I put all the maps on the memory-card as instructed. Select the "path" for the navigation on me Rage GPS, but when I click on navigation to start Igo Primo absolutely nothing happens. Best response I can get is the message "application failed to start last time. Do you want to reset to factory defaults and lose all your pois, tracks and settings?" Whether I chose yes or no, nothing happens!

I have the same problem when I use the internal memory of the Rage GPS, but again nothing happens. I re-installed the driver system of the device, but no result. Igo does not create a crash log, so I can't analyse anything using that. Use you can understand I am quite lost and hope someone is able to help me out. Thank you in advance, for finally enabling me to use my GPS again after many months!

Does the old Primo still work?
Did you use a freshly formatted SD? (recommended)

Best response I can get is the message "application failed to start last time. Do you want to reset to factory defaults and lose all your pois, tracks and settings?" Whether I chose yes or no, nothing happens!

This means Primo is found.
When however Primo does nothing, I think either the needed license(s) is or are missing or the Primo screen resolution is completely wrong, probably a wrong data.zip. Or the save folder and/or sys.txt is.
When a save folder is there, delete it. Put in your old sys.txt.

See what happens. Report back and when Primo doesnot start again, at least tell us where you found which Primo, what resolutions are in data.zip and the specifications (screen resolution, RAM, ...) of your device.

Thanks already for the help katastrofe.

The old set-up also does not work anymore, which is strange!

To answer your questions:

- I lost my old version of Igo, that I previously had on the SD-card
- I already deleted the save folder
- I tried several sys files and even made one myself with the sysgenerator, no succes!
- The license folder contains about 11 lyc files, don't know which one I should have?
- the data.zip file contains the resolution 480_272 in the ui_igo9 map (the Rage GPS resolution is 480_272

Okay
Sys.txt is not required, Primo can do without and some even recommend it. But sys can enable/disable some things that are not in settings.
One needs only a few licenses. Robotcop (thanks go to him) posted this image of the minimal set on the German Board : [Please Register or Login to download file]
These are only for Primo! IGO8 needs only 2.

Can you tell us if the Primo program is on SD or in internal? Completely or partly? Or a copy? And is the path to the exe correct?
I am trying to find out if the SD or SD-reader might be broken. So the error posted above, when did it show up? When the program was started from SD or from internal?

The primo program is completely on the SD. I am quite sure that the path is correct (Primo.exe, from the SD card in the map Primo). The error message pops up when I select navigation and the GPS-device tries to start Igo. After the message nothing happens, whether I choose yes or no; nothing happens. If I press navigation again, I get no more error message but nothing happens. If I press the reset button or reboot the device, I get the error message again but after pressing either yes or no, nothing happens.

The SD-reader is not broken, because when I select the path the device does recognize the SD card and I can browse through its content.

And thank you for all your help katastrofe, I really appreciate it!

I am trying to locate the cause:

So out of 20 different (?) downloads no single one works? Strange.
You deleted the save folder (post#3) and since no new one has been made? This means or/and Primo does not start far enough to create a save folder or/and can't create a save folder technically. This happens when the SD or the reader is broken or when the SD is write protected. Same for crash log. Check the write protection.

The error message "failed to start last time" is puzzling me. I thought Primo finds this information in the save folder, but when there is none ... how does it conclude the last faulty start? So can you clear this up? Maybe the message only appeared once? The more detailed information you give, the better we can help.

I just can't understand why no single download is functional, at least a bit. Unless after all the SD(reader) is broken.
Have you always used the same SD for all tries? Maybe it's just a SD sector that is faulty but includes an important file(part)?
So another SD may solve things? No idea.

Another (final?) idea: When the original software was THE original - that is legitimate/official - and you used the original SD, there may be your problem. Then the software and SD are linked and the device has stored that connection somewhere. So the licenses are not official no more, the software on SD is not linked or connected to SD, on starting that connection/link is checked, but fails and ....
In short, just an idea, but it may be the reason.

:bs_quesexclaim:
I also could use some more experienced help too, another point of view perhaps someone????

Did you try formatting the SD card [not quick format] and reinstall the program?
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

Yes, I formatted the SD card every time I put a fresh install on it. I format it on a mac, since I have no other computer. There is, unlike in windows, no option (as far as i know) to either do a quick or normal format.

Could it perhaps be related to [Please Register or Login to download file]
Mac's apparently create a prefix in some filenames when copying to a device, remove the prefix & everything should work...if that's what's causing the issue.

@JmaCWQ, thank you for the input. I was already aware of this prefix using a MAC is causing (had the problem in the past). So I already deleted all of the .- prefixes in the license folder!

@ Katastrofe, on my mac I format the card as MS-Dos Fat (I assume this is FAT32). And this has worked for me in the past

I can't figure out why no single download works.
Every possible cause I can think of and suggest, you can deny. I just don't know anymore. :022: :022:
Unless I overlook something over and over again.

Could there be some valuable information missing? The Primo build number? Downloaded from here? What post? Maybe you should upload it so I can take a closer look?

I could finally borrow a laptop with windows on it. After properly formatting and installing the files from this computer, Igo finally works. So the problem had to do with me using a mac, although I already took care of the .- residual files.
