Igo Primo not starting on china 128 MB GPS

Postby t_jones » Sun Sep 15, 2013 3:02 pm

Hello Guys

Im new to this place so I hope someone can help.
Purchased a 7 inch incar DVD/GPS from china last week and it works, runs IGO 8. (even though the GUI seems to be designed by a 3year old)
I was not all that happy with that version so I tried to install IGO Primo. First I tried ver 2.4 and got some out of memory error, strange because its a 128 MB unit and everybody is telling me that it should work just fine.

Ok, so I tried the 2.0 version, same one as in this thread, and NOTHING, it does not even start.
What am I missing? Do I need to edit the sys.txt manually?
The interesting thing is that even though IGO doesn´t start, it looks like the system process has actually started because if I press some of the icons on the GPS menu e.g. GPS settings, i get a message "To use this, please exit GPS first" (or something in that area)

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

When you installed primo 2.4, did you fill it up with content before starting it?
It's recommended to start with one map and add other content later.

And also try compressing the exe file with upx shell.

No I did not fill it up with anything, just the basemap.

I'll google the upx shell, but alas, I am a OSX user.

There might be an alternative?

But we have seen devices recently that are just too crippled to run anything else.

Can you show exactly what the out of memory error is, there are a few different ones and they mean different things?

Ok, for now I´ve gone back to IGO 8 and downloaded new maps. The maps shipped with the unit were from the 16th century.

When I have the time and energy I will try Primo again (doesn't have to be 2,4 2.0 will do nicely) and post any error messages.

To be continued

when you turn your unit on, does it go to a menu selection screen? Or does it start directly the GPS program?
Most of the china GPS units come with some sort of front end.. If thats the case, then, most likely on the 2nd page, you should be able to change the path of the program.

Does your unit also have a microSD (TF) card slot on it as well? If it does, I'd suggest downloading a full working copy of iGo here, and then put the newest maps on it and then, in the front in, change the path, or, if you can, just drop to WinCE and double tap the iGO icon and see what happens..

I got lucky with my China one, as it has a front end, and gives me the option of setting paths to load the GPS program I wish, it also allows me to drop out into WinCE, and run it directly that way.

Read up on my other post about the China 7" GPS I got off ebay, and follow the instructions there...

Hope that helps.

I believe part of the problem with devices is due to the menu taking up so much RAM. As I said in another thread, over 36% of RAM is used on my device by the menu alone. That is poor. In fact, that's piss poor and it's infuriating.

I am going to try a different device tonight on a power pack and see how much RAM is utilized by that model. If it is much much less, I will begin to look to sell the current device. A shame. It's great for most things, but it crashes when using iGo Online. It's annoying :(
