Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share my success with yall. Thanks to everyone who contributed and pondered and scratched and what not....!, All your efforts have been tremendous.

I now have a fully functional, (at least the bits I need to use anyway) iGO8 set up on a n SD Card in my 2Din In Car entertainment system.

Firstly, I'd like to say that I have spend nearly 2years trying to get this thing to work. I have visited numerous sites, forums and discussion panels but have not been successful, and even though it took some concentrating, I managed to ge it working in just over a week from becoming a member of Navitotal.com. You guys rock....!
The tremendous amount of mentors and expertise available made it all the more an interested learning experience, and for anyone who befalls the same issues, please believe me, you can do it. Just take it easy, slowly read through the numerous relational threads and something with just pop out at you, and there, BINGO.

So now, to the process....
Firstly, after trying a few things (bad habbits)before reading every relational thread and learning from other people's mistakes, I finally decided to read through a number of the links posted through the responses from my requests.

Even though the advice and suggestions put forward prior was pretty simplistic, I was somewhat confused, ,partly because of information overload, so I decided, I needed to follow a thread that discussed someone else's experience of solving a similar problem.

In the interim, I received a response from chas521 who pointed me to this post
http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?7708-Help!-Installing-iGO-8.3-Picture-goes-all-white-and-rolls

I then followed the link and read through the thread.
Infact, it appeared a lot simplier than I imagined, but through the testing process, I also learned that, all units are different therefore, the program behave differently through their operating systems.

One thing's for sure, it did help me successfully complete my installation.

After downloading the necessary files, I re-formatted my SD Card and made an iGO8 folder in which, I placed all the files.

I then proceeded to examine the sys.txt file which I believe, seem to have been the major stumbling block. Now, I know it has been said and repeated here many times but, I warn you, DO NOT MIX AND MATCH FILES FROM DIFFERENT DOWNLOADS. This may also have contributed to my problem, so a clean fresh download with all the files intact [HOUSEHOLD HINTS.rar - barebones system]

Then a little tweaking of the sys.txt file to match my system. My system uses the path, StorageCard and has a resolution of 800x480. Now it's also worth remembering that, I took advice from some of the responses given during my cry for help and somewhere, it was noted that, iGO being an intelligent program that it is, can do somethings by itself, ie.; finding the paths to the gps app and other thins, but the resolution and dada.zip information must be right. Anyway,

As you can see, there are some differences and minor changes. Firstly, I omitted the folders path, because, it seemed the error message I was getting was related to this, and I tried different ways of writing the path but it didn't work. However, as you can see, deleting the folder shebang, hence the path, gave me the result.

I also changed the resolution from 480_272 to 800_480 to match my system settings.

After testing the program with these settings, Bingo, iGO8 started, but there was to be a couple more issues to resolve.
One was the maps and the second was the GPX Fix. Please be patient with it, bacuse, onece it's found a home in your system, its staying put.

So here, I have iGO8 working. Nexts, I took it out of the car and to my computer to add some maps. Now, because I'm based in the UK, I only needed UK Maps. Lickily, I had read somewhere and noticed a link to UK and ROI Maps rar. So I searched for it, downloaded it and unzipped it replacing everything in my maps folder with that.

Next I tested it and VIOLA....

My Final task was to set it all up in the car and hope for some happy navigation , but I was getting no GPS signal. Having written back here about the problem I was having, I learnt that, I had to be patient and allow the app and my system to locate and sync with the Satellite. So I followed every word of advice, installed it, fired it up and sat outside my house, away from tress and tall buildings and within 20minutes, the app had a GPS lock and it was all green lights......!:rolling:

Now, I can't begin to tell you how emotional my journey has been. I first learnt of iGO8 just over 2 years ago and always wanted to have it working in my 2Din System, and to finally achieve this, is a tremendous relief, accomplishment and uplifting.

I have learned so much and if I can be of help to anyone, I will be more than happy to oblige. Oh by the way, I'm now looking to try another app on another 2din I have in my other car.

I have also contacted the manufacturers of my car system, and they are more than happy to for me to spread the word. I am thinking of maybe, buying a few units and selling them myself.:)

Any suggestions for another app for my other 2DIN system will be appreciated. Another learning curve, wont hurt.:)

Thanks to all for reading and thank you all for your kind mentoring.:grouphug:

Thank you for the kind words!!!! Although you don't know, I've been saying what you wrote for years. Stay away from different forum's advices because it will only cause conflicts and heartache. Many members go elsewhere seeking advice and sometimes it works BUT they come back here to Navitotal because our team gives the best support. I'm not just tooting my own horn, it's true by experience. Now that you have a good working program, stay here for updates and additions. Anything you might get elsewhere could possibly cause you to lose things again. :clap:

BTW, have you noticed the different navs I have? If you're interested, post here [start a new thread] and we'll see what can be done.

Hi chas521,

I cant thank you guys enough, because, not only have I got a working nav program, I am able to pass on that knowledge and experience and hopefully help others avoid the same pitfalls I encountered, so thank you guys once again.

In the mean time, I am interested in getting Primo or Garmin running on my other 2Din System. Same spec as the one before.

Is that possible??? And where do I start???.

Thanks in Advance.

To start with Primo. Basically it's the same as iGO8. So that must be easy for you now.
As usual you will find all on this forum. Only now the others can help you better than I possibly can because I do not use Primo at all.
software : http://www.navitotal.com/forumdisplay.php?83-Program-%28-data.zip-branding.zip-license%29
content : the content is (almost) identical to Primo and you can either share the content folder (like explained here or make separate ones. Make use of these sys.txt lines :[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8_PRIMO" ; change this if applicable
data="/Storage Card/iGO8_PRIMO" ;
content="/Storage card/igo8/CONTENT"
kmlpoi="userdata\poi" ;"content\userdata\poi"
kmlroute="userdata\route" ;"content\userdata\route"
;user_car="mycars"
tts_nua_v5="\Storage Card\igo8_primo\tts_nua_v5"
tts_loq="\Storage Card\IGO8\TTS_LOQ";needs loqmsx.dll LoqTTS6.dll LoqTTS6_util.dll LoqDutch6.5.dll
has_secondary_root=0 ; do not search for other igo8 distributions

(caution: The last entry here is important, have it in any case in sys.txt!

tutorial (installation) : http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?3521-Guide-to-install-iGO-Primo-on-devices-with-Windows-CE-core.

Garmin: Chas will help you later for sure.

I would suggest you start with this:
Primo-1.2-Build-9.2.0.192885-May-20-2011

Then pay attention to what Nabi said above.
Additionally, be aware that it is not often a good idea to just copy a sys.txt file (even if it appears to work fine) from iGo8 to Primo (or vice-versa). The two products work a bit differently, and you don't want to introduce any conflicts.

Hi DreadManCandy,
I'm on a different time as you guys so I get to you a little later. Sorry my friend, but I love some different kinds of candy. Does your screen name have any significance?

You'll find the entire Navitotal team quite proficient in dealing with GPS devices/programs. These guys were hand-picked so feel confident; they know what they're doing.

As for Primo or Garmin, I'd go with Primo because it has features that Garmin doesn't have for WinCE. The most important is that Primo has TTS, Garmin no. Nor does TomTom for WinCE. Garmin and TT are basic point A to point B navs only. Yurbuh Tuggly gave you a link to the Primo program - it works fine so use it. Pay close attention to what Nabi told you especially ANY sys.txt entries for Primo. As usual, post your results here.

It's OK to visit the neighbors elsewhere, but sometimes you have to know when to come HOME.

Hi Guys,

Hope all's well in all your quarters'. Having paid tribute and followed the compliments thereafter, it crossed my mind, what a wonderful occasion it would be for us all to have a beer together, except, I'll opt for guiness. Lol

In the mean time, I will have a go at installing Primo on a separate SD Card (stand alone) and report back any progress or failures. Thanks again guys.

NaviTotal Roooooooooooooooooocks.....!:clap:

Lets all have a standing ovation...!
