IGo8 on a 2Din In Car Entertainment System - Pleeeeese Help

Postby DreadManCandy » Sun Nov 20, 2011 12:36 am

Morning All.....

I am a newbie here so forgive me fro cross posting, repeating and all that:scratch_one-s_head_. One thing's for sure, I'm confident I will get the support and help here after reading a number of interesting posts.

Firstly, I'd like to say thanks to everyone on this site, it's truly interesting to read some of the postings and considering I've been unsuccessfully searching for help and advice for a while, I only stumbled upon this site yesterday.

Anyway, that was my intro, and to make a long story loooonger, here's my plea.

I purchased a double din in car entertainment system a year ago and the selling point to me was the fact that it came loaded with a GPS Programme. The product arrived and of course I was excited. Unfortunately, there was no SD Card or GPS App with it. By the way, this was the 1st time I heard about IGo8. I contacted thew chinese supplier and mentioned this to them and they apologised and suggested that I pay some more money in order for them to send me the SD CArd with the loaded app on it.

At this point, I felt I had spent enough on purchasing the product, paying for customs and for someone to fit it in my car so I told them to upload the app to their site and I'll download it.This never happended so anyway, I proceeded to learn about nav systems and apps and what works and what doesnt work.:helpsos:

However, I noticed on the packaging and in the emails that, tyhe mention of iGo Nav Software. To this end, I've been trying to get one to work on my system but it just wont load. I have followed numerous installation examples but I still cant get the damn thing to work on my system. The closest I got it working was on my Axim51V and the loading screen on my 2din system but with error codes and it crashes. Since last year, I have managed to download and huge collection of iGo navigation software, but I just cant seem to be able to get it gooooing.

Perhaps someone can help me or tutor me to make one of these work.

I like the look of the software especially on my PDA even though it crashes all the time, but I'm sure with the right configuration and set up and what not, I'll be able to get it going.

I really appreciate any responses, tutorials and links to working apps that I can get started with. I noticed there's a lot of postings and discussions, but I'm very confused as to where to start.:chok_mini:

By the way, my system runs on WinCE 5

Thanks in advance

Did you get iGO to start at all? Even if all you got was an error message.

Also post the make/model number

Morning Sir,

Thanks for your quick response.
Pheeew, I was on my way out, but I guess I'll stick around for a little bit longer.

And to answre your question, sometimes, I did get it to load the igo screen (bitmap) and then spits out an error. One of them was, cannot find language files, and the other errors were codes. And to be completely honest, I havn't clue, so I just turn the damn thing off, eject the sd card and ry another download, in the hope it might work. The latest one I tried was (iGO 8.3.4 Full Europe 2011) and that loaded an igo screen and crashed on me. Wish I could upload the whole folder, but I haven't got the facility.

Hope this responses helps and you're able to help.

Thanks

Hi Fatboyfun,

Thanks for the link.

Just wondering whether you or anyone could point me in the direction of the various downloads mentioned in the thread. I have done a test and figured out the storage name and resolution. The storage name is "StorageCard" and the Resolution is 800x480 as reported by resolution tester. I reckon, I will now need a copy of (2Din90500v1.rar) and (data_branding.rar for that resolution) as I'm starting from scratch and want to use a tried and tested setup.

I think the problem I'm having is to do with the system file (ie;sys.txt or device.ini)

If only I can figure those out or indeed whether I need them both. But I'm going to soldier on and hopefully, get this to work on my system.

Thanks in advance for any further suggestions, info or advice.

Bless up....!

In my opinion, following the thread carefully or this one: http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?910-How-to-install-iGO8-from-scratch, any iGO non 2Din90500 build should end up in a working iGO.

Read the thread thoroughly and follow it. Do the resolution test !!! Most failures, or I should say all, had 3 reasons: wrong resolution, too little memory or user errors.
The download links to the 2Din90500 and other files are not in the open, but are in the attachment.
When you have problems, any at all, be precise and post the error message or the step iGO is in when freezing. Success!

Hi Nabi,
Thanks for the above link.

I have thoroughly read the page contents and have a better understanding as to why iGO will and will not work.
I have followed the instructions and advice and I am confident I can get this working.

This is the result of my tests.

System running on WinCE 5.0
Memory Storage 58968kb
Available Memory 43404kb
Resolution 800x480 (using resolution tester)
SD Path is StorageCard

However, I tried one of the applications I downloaded from here and the error I got was
Program Application database cannot be found.

I believe I may have been using a PDA version.(I'm using a package I downloaded from here called HouseHold Hints.rar) Is this the one???

I now know I need a PNA Version. I would really appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction.
Also, what should my sys.txt file contain?

This is what is in the current sys.txt file.

As you can see, I have modified the path and the resolution to fit my system and iGO.exe is in the IGO folder together with all the files and folders???

Am I doing something wrong? I think I'm sooooooo close.

Pleeeeeeease Help.

Thanks in Advance

Take another look at the how to solve error messages link above, also that sys.txt is a bit long, too many entries can lead to problems.

That sys.txt is mine from my program. It works 100%. Not too long and only touches upon what is necessary. If he is getting a database not found error, it's because it cannot find the correct path to the application. He must know what his SD card is called and make the name change. My program works fine with 2Din.

I am not sure who uploaded household.rar and what build it is. By the date of the exe file (or in menu>about) you can find the build.
On http://www.navitotal.com/forumdisplay.php?83-Program-%28-data.zip-branding.zip-license%29 you will find all programs. Also there is a list of iGO8 releases on that page.
I do not have the time and possibility to check the links (I am at work ;-) ) but you will certainly find what you need, when you need another one.

The error message (application database not found) is connected to this line : app="%StorageCard%/iGO8". Check this : http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?914-How-to-solve-error-messages.
But it's quite possible that deleting (or better renaming sys.txt -> sys.old or likewise) will make iGO run. Try it.
The contents of your sys.txt is of not the most important to me now. Try to keep things simple, including contents. Add things one by one.
Your device has minimal - but enough - memory. First make things work.

You could start by changing this:
[folders]
app="%StorageCard%/iGO8"

To this:
[folders]
app="/StorageCard/iGO8"

If that does not work, then try this:
;[folders]
;app="/StorageCard/iGO8"

I could have known. Such a common title for a rar file.

Had to use a simple name to protect it - I hope!

@DreadManCandy

Read this from post #10 http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?7708-Help!-Installing-iGO-8.3-Picture-goes-all-white-and-rolls!

EDIT: I see you said earlier that you modified the path. What did you do? You didn't have to do anything except change the resolution to your device.
