This behavior is typical for the wrong resolution, so the question remains: what resolution?
I suggest you replace your data.zip with this multiresolution one I just uploaded:

Delete the save file.
Open a txt editor (notepad) and copy/paste the next lines in it. Then save as sys.txt and replace your sys.txt with it.

As you see, no resolution lines, no GPS related lines. Let iGO figure out itself.

I think the highlighted lines from crash.txt above mean his system does not support environment variables, maybe changing the line in sys.txt to...

[folders]
app="\Storage Card\iGO8"

or equivalent might help.

Also that is a very low amount of memory available.

Here's what heppened with Nabi's suggestion above:

igo8 Dialog box

"failed to open file ui_igo8_da\480_272\loading.progressbar.bmp exiting application"

With the prior data.zip and sys.txt, the progressbar was showing up and the animation was showing the progress bar filling when I ran it.

Can I just buy nav software for this unit somewhere? I'm not sure if I have the patience for this.

You are forgetting something here ;) in fact the most important.
iGO found for itself the resolution is 480*272 !!

To solve this problem, in the file data.zip/project_config/, open the file “igo8_generic.ini”
Look for the key "show_progressbar=1" ( in the section [loading] ) and change it to "show_progressbar=0"

Sat Nov 13, 2010 2:20 am

OK, Nabi. Made the change as suggested "show_progressbar=0". Screen showed an automobile then switched to a screen which title was "program language" It looked like I could have selected the box with the Union Jack " English (UK)" but it was unselectable. I'm assuming that I have to load content into the language folder or something. I will await instuction..................

Now we are getting somewhere. Especially this: you say that the screen (splash screen?) shows an automobile. You have a modified build, no regular build. Possibly a complete preset one with skin etc. prepared for a particular device.
Usually, builds do come with at least the English language file working. Since yours doesn't, well, something smells. We could make it work but better start from scratch.

I propose you backup the sd card since you may be able to use some files from it. Then delete the iGO on it (best use a newly formatted sd) and follow these instructions: http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?909-Double-din-2Din-GPS-How-to-install-thread (as advoor proposed before).

When you have that one working, you can easily update.

Can you post the build or point me in the right direction?

Read carefully and pay attention to the attachment ;)
This thread now has the longest living links.

Bingo!! I just finished the autodetect on the GPS settings in igo8 on the 2din. I'm still waiting for the GPS fix, which I'm guessing is the satellite determining the position?

Initially I ran with the 480_272 because the earlier old build response from the 2din was calling for the 480_272.bmp and we thought that was the res. Well, after noticing that the current build called for 480_234.bmp and that igo loaded the 480_272.bmp and displayed it with some of the screen buttons not visible, I DL the 480_234 zips and it was magic. You don't know how happy I was to see that!! All I can say is that if someone is reading this post and trying to get theirs to work, read the ENTIRE install thread CAREFULLY and pay strict attention to what you are being told to LOOK for and execute.

Funny thing, now it seems so simple.

Thanks to all for your help.

Cheers.

Youre not going to belive this but I thought 480x272 was strange.
Most chinese 2 din in cars Ive seen are 480x234..
Well done ;) Nabi is a good mentor :)

I also have a VW (Golf V) with an WD6050 2din.
Let us know if you want to change the screen colours for a darker set that works better if the sun shines on the screen.
Next thing then is what is called a new "skin".

Thanks bazzle ;) I admit the resolution puzzled me a lot here.

OK, people. Thanks for all the info, but I'm not ready for it yet. When I start igo, it reads "failed to open file ui_igo8_da\480_272\loading.progressbar.bmp exiting application" If I repeat this 2x I get "the application failed to start last time. Do you want to reset to factory defaults and lose all your POIs tracks & settings?" I chose yes and igo loaded (properly?). I selected English\OK\Advanced\Settings\GPS\Autodetect\. The unit scanned and stopped at 2 9600 for the settings port & baud rate. Box popped up "GPS receiver has been detected successfully. I navigated back to the map screen and it put me in Hungary. I was able to zoom in & out and see the country borders, etc. I was expecting the GPS to find my location, but it didn't. I drove for around an hour without any success.

FYI I have the 8.3.2.90500 with 480_234 branding & data zips with "showprogess bar =0" in the data\project_config\igo8_generic.ini

I feel good that I'm this far, but I think I still need more guidance. I'll revisit the install thread to see if there's something I missed.

Thanks, all.

 You are still having the 480/272 issue ????
I wonder why, because when you followed the instructions - and did as asked, the data.zip don't include 480*272, only 480*234.

Did you start from scratch with a empty, freshly formatted sd?

When the unit found GPS, it don't mean it has a fix. Driving around is the worst you could do. Wait for a fix, having a clear view to the sky and stay at one place!

Mon Nov 15, 2010 4:37 pm

Yes, started with an empty SD. But I did initially run with the 480_272 zips because we thought it was the correct resolution. I dumped the 480_272 zips and added the 480_234s. I will try in a few hours to fix the GPS.
