IGO8/PRIMO adaptation to PDA

Postby dannyu » Tue Sep 14, 2010 8:17 am

Hi all,

I'd appriciate any help in adapting the IGO8/PRIMO/AMIGO to a PDA.
I currently have all of the above running on a PNA (C310/C320) and I'm quite happy with the results.
I'm trying to make a friend which owns a MIO P350 (running IGO8.8 with 2577 folder) unit happy
as well, but so far with no luck.
Obviously I'm missing something here.

Thank you,
Danny

Do it step by step, program by program.
First iGO
Easiest is to copy the complete iGO8 folder to another sd (provided this is where the contents for iGO is.
On that sd, delete the save folder.
Next adapt the sys.txt, delete any lines in the [device] header and see that gps port and baud are NOT specified (delete [GPS] header and lines). Also delete any lines pointing to the resolution. If the data.zip has the correct resolutions of the p350 (240*320/320*240), it should work.
Go to explorer on the pda, you should be able to search the contents of the sd and start up iGO.exe. This will run the iGO from sd.
Some remarks:
1. TTS might work or not work, depending on the DLL's and Windows CE, as well as the available memory. I suppose the p350 is CE5.0 and has 128MB, so that should be okay, because I think the c320 is CE5 as well.
2. For Amigo and Primo, the procedure is the same. But I suppose you have to make sure the device is set in landscape. IGO will work in portrait as well, providing the data.zip supports it.
3. deleting the iGO folder in the p350's memory uninstalls the old iGO.

Thank you, Nabi

I checked and it seems that all you recommended was done. Also the resolutions are ok.
I noticed that on the working IGO8.0 there is no IGO.EXE but rather application.dat.

When I try to run IGO8.3 using the windows explorer, it starts but then crashes for some reason.

I think there are more to do.

Thanks,
Danny

Rename application.dat to igo.exe.

The 8.0 application.dat means no more than it's a PDA build, ready for install.
Rename application.dat into igo.exe and you can run iGO directly from sd card.

When iGO8.3 crashes immediately, we must consider the license being wrong or the resolution. Giving the fact that it was a working copy (right?) we can assume it's not the license. You did delete the save folder? Changed sys.txt? Then open data.zip and check again ui_igo8 folder. In it must be the resolution folders 240_320 and 320_240.
When these conditions are met, iGO should run. If not, it must show a message, either what it's doing, or an error message.

this doesn't help as the autorun exe file in 2577 folder is looking for the application.dat file and not igo.exe.
Obviously using the windows explorer the file can be accessed directly, it doesn't run (yet) as well.

It's also obvious to delete or the 2577 folder. I should have said it
Why iGo doesn't run? It should!!

From my "howto install" thread:
In case you downloaded a PDA release, delete the folder called "2577". This allows you to install on memory card (SD)
On the SD card you should see in its main directory or folder called iGO8. In it is a file called "application.dat". Rename it into "igo8.exe".
(There is no need deleting and renaming if for what reason ever, you need to install in memory of your PDA or smartphone - just insert the (micro) sd in your device and it will automatically install)

thank you, Nabi

I'm actually using a PNA version taken from my C310.
I did as you recommended and now I have IGO8.3 and PRIMO running on the unit.
the only issue I need to resolve is how to make it automatically invoke (as the 2577 folder did) as
"computers are not the cup of tea" of my friend.

Thanks a lot,
Danny

English not being my first and native language, what do you mean by 'automatically invoke'?
Because the 2577 folder doesn't do more than each time check if the installed iGO is older than the application.dat on the sd. If so, update iGO.
My iGO runs completely from sd, no 2577 folder, no installation, no problem.

You possibly mean autostart iGO on the PDA? In my opinion, it would be better to use a launcher program instead. On my Mio p360 PDA, I use cLaunch. That way I have more possibilities (and can choose which (nav) program to start). Do a google search if you are interested.

Thank you, Nabi.

Yes, that's what I meant. I'll look it up and try it.
If you're using it, then it must be good enough for anyone, including my friend.

Thank you,
Danny
