igo8 unhappy with power suppy.

Mon Nov 24, 2014 7:57 pm

Hi. I have a unnamed unit running igo8 on wince. the unit works fine, albeit not for long, on battery power. When I connect the power lead igo8 flashes between working and timing, down these flashes are erratic and some times the timing reaches the end and the program closes but usually it counts down a couple of second and then reverts to working for a few seconds. If I shut igo8, wince works fine so it's obviously only affecting '8. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iGO8 only reacts to the os broadcasting the power state, it sounds like maybe a loose connection somewhere, wince itself doesn't care for the state of ac power.

Is there a power led on the device to confirm a steady connection?

Hi FBF

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay in responding.
This problem occurs with all power inputs, mains charger at home and connector in the car. Unfortunately the battery only lasts 20 - 30 mins.

It may be a loose socket or dry solder joint in the device.

You can rule out the charger itself if it happens with several different ones.

Are you able to replicate the problem, perhaps by putting pressure on the plug from different angles while it's plugged in?

I tried pressing, wiggling plugs and things, and then resorted to violence and opened the unit, cut the wires to the battery - lo and behold, it now work fine, albeit only when plugged in but, as the battery time was so short it's not much of a loss. Thanks for the help.

Some folks like to replace the battery at some point. Do you still have the opportunity if you choose to do so?

Hi Chas521, Yes, when I opened the unit the battery leads were quite long, so I cut them mid way and they are easy to reconnect. But after two days use it works fine and I doubt that I shall need to reconnect. Do you think a knackered battery could have caused the problem?

Batteries that are getting down in power have been known to cause internal problems. However, problems can be caused by a number of things.
