Thanks to everyone here, I have Primo up and running beautifully on my Chinese 4.3" device.
The only minor obstacle I find is that some of the major streets in my city (Niagara Falls, Canada)have two names. Only one is commonly used, but Primo's TTS inevitably chooses the wrong one.
For example, instead of saying "Turn left onto Stanley Avenue" it will say "Turn left onto RR 102" RR stands for "Regional Road", but nobody uses that name. No big deal, but if it's fixable...I'm interested.
BTW, iGo w/ TTS never had this issue.
Any help?

It depends on which mapset you're using for which program. Are you using a different mapset now for Primo than you did with iGO 8.3? It's really nothing that anyone has control over except the mapmaker.

Hi,
you can try this in your sys.txt :
[tts]
automatic_direction_conversion=1
tts_buffer=131072
announce_exit_directions=1
tts_logics=3
priority="VERY_HIGH"
always_say_road_names=3
announce_street_name=1
skip_exit_numbers=0

In my sys.txt I have the following line and it says the route number and the street name, e.g. "turn onto route 100, Chestnut street. Give it a try.
[tts]
always_say_road_names=1

Hey pitcritter,
I'm in St. Catharines and had the same problem. These guys will get you straightened out.
Try what VFR is stating, and if that doesn't make a difference add this to your sys.txt:
[tts]
automatic_direction_conversion=1 ;(1)
tts_buffer=65536 ;(10240=10k) 32786=32k
announce_exit_directions=1 ;(0)
priority=CRITICAL ; CRITICAL VERY_HIGH HIGH NORMAL LOW VERY_LOW
always_say_road_names=3 ;(0) 1 or 2 or 3
skip_exit_numbers=0 ;(0) 1 or 2
Still says the "RR" occasionally when leaving the highway, but most times it will say the more common name. Still doesn't fix the QEW problem though lol

You can also try these, and try them with different numbers too.
[tts]
announce_street_name=1
tts_logics=3

Please try these modified voices and see if you still have problem with QEW:
[Please Register or Login to download file] password: kamoteque
These are "ASRN" versions of voices - "always say road names" .

Thanks, Kamoteka.
Its not really a problem, and "technically" it is doing it right, but whenever it has to mention the QEW it says "Cue" instead of "Q.E.W.". I know this could be fixed with some file editing, I just need to find a tutorial (and some time!!) as to how to change it.
edit: I see where you've added "qew=queen elizabeth way" into the rules2.txt. I'll give thsi a whirl!

The ASRN file fixed the QEW issue, and I do like the changes to the voice prompts although it's bordering on a little too chatty (better than not chatty enough). I'll play around to get rid of some of the prompts.

Sorry for the delay...out of town for a few days (with Primo working perfectly).
Thanks for the replies. I made the changes in the sys.txt. I'm not sure which one made the difference, but something did...success!
Now though, something strange that I hadn't heard since my days with my Mio c310..."Route Recalculation". I've never heard iGo or Primo say that before, although I'm sure I've made a few wrong turns. I don't know if I like it or not, but is there a way to toggle it in the sys.txt?

I know you can edit the voice to make it say whatever you want for route recalculation, not sure about a sys.txt entry. Try this one:
[sound.announcer]
recalculate=0
And you can try these for the other spoken warnings:
[sound.announcer]
gps_disconnected=0
gps_signal_lost=0

hi guys, sorry to jump in like this but,
does the iGO 8 software has that same voice problem as described on the PRiMO???
thanx

Ther are at least 3 or 4 problems discussed here...
1. wrong street name spoken
2. CUE instead of Q-E-W
3. "Route Recalculation"
4. Chatty voices
Which problem are you concerned about?
I know that when I was using iGo, it said the correct street name, it said CUE, not Q-E-W (until I messed with it), it did not say "Route Recalculation" and it wasn't too chatty for my tastes.
I used the same maps (NTQ2/09) for both programs.

The only problem I have with my current Primo setup is that I find it a little too chatty. Maybe I just need to change the distances from the maneuver at which directions are spoken?
It now says the proper common street name, says "Queen Elizabeth Way" instead of "Cue", and does not say "Route Recalculation". In fact, the ASRN voices now tell me what side of the road my destination is on, which is nice.
All the changes I made can be found in this thread.

ok thanx guys! when i get my GPS unit, i'll install PRiMO + fix those issues too!
oh and one thing, about "the ASRN voices now tell me what side of the road my destination is on"
Does iGO PRiMO also provide a visual indicator of which side of the street the destination is?
like an arrow pointing right or left or anything like it???
thx
