Re-installation of Igo Primo-2 9.6.5 with recent maps Europe

Postby DCD001 » Thu Aug 29, 2019 3:23 pm

Hello,

Well, I'm a little confused, it seems I didn't fully backup the Primo directory before formatting the partition of the NandFlash built-in memory of my GPS...
So sorry now, everything went wrong after this :022: :-(

1. GPS Specifications

7" GPS 'Car Truck Lorry Coach (ordered on ebay on june 2013)
Model: 7006 BA (STK 1264B ??)
CPU AT551 ARM1136JF 800 Mhz SirF Atlas 6 with 256MB SDRAM
8 GB internal memory built-in + Micro TF card max. 16 GB
TFT LCD touch-screen - display resolution : 800*480 pixels
Multimedia features as tablet PC but NO network interface
Bluetooth + FM Transmitter Broadcast + AV-IN for external video as well as Car Rear View System

Windows CE 6.0 and iGO Primo 2.0 program (Igo 9.6.5.245577) pre-installed

Kernel release: 263-BGN2-R1-1305301900
Application release: 263N-3-3.2.1A-AF2B2-1305311818
Sérial Number : 0168100920016156

2. Description of the trouble

I encountered some problem with FM Transmitter Broadcasting feature and wanted to update the old 2015 maps with new ones found on internet (Navtec_Igo_here_2018_Q2).
Witout any positive result, a bit angry, with the dedicated command of Primo, I formatted the main NandFlash partition (built-in memory of the GPS) where all data and program had been recorded.
After multiple tries, with help of the USB cable (it works by changing USB port at each reconnection) I succeeded in reconstructing and completing all directories aborescence in Flash memory and I tried then to install newer 2018 maps but without success. After this I cleared all and copied nearly all files I had saved on my hard drive after the first installation, directory after directory.

Currently at startup, the map locates me correctly (location via GPS Test OK) but occupies only a quarter of the surface of the screen and almost the entire application control interface has disappeared.
As soon as I click outside, the screen freezes on a blue background and no way to configure anything.

Unfortunately, I do not have an original installation archive of Primo on SDHC card (image file or compressed folder).
The GPS was sold completely preconfigured in June 2013.

How to proceed to restore the correct operating of Primo 2.0 (or Primo 2.4 Igo 9.6.13.405512 if suitable) with recent Navtec maps (2018 or 2019) of the countries I wish (base map, Western Europe, BE, FR , L, DE, NL, IT, SP, P, CH, ...) and where can I find the corresponding files ?

Thanks a lot for your help !

If you have formatted the flash memory, then, you have discovered all data is now lost.

You now need a copy of a new WinCE installation file to be installed.

Hi franka,
I used the utility menu in the Primo interface to format the media and it only affects the volume where the navigation software is installed and not the (hidden) partition where the OS is installed (WinCE6 ).
Thanks for your contribution.

All is OK now with the precious help of Jeanet.

Thank you so much, you're a nice person :023:

I'll be back on this topic when I'll understand the cause of the failure in my back up, I've yet much to learn from experts like her.

I wasn't suggesting that you needed to install a new copy of WinCe, only that you need a copy of a navigation program that will run under the WinCE O/S, to install in the resident flash memory.

The program you had installed[iGO_Primo 2.4] is nice but very old software, and as you are starting from scratch iGO_Nextgen, with the latest maps and speedcams, would be much better.

Hello,
your answer surprises me. I thought NextGen was dedicated to Android smartphones and the latest WINCE GPS models with lots of RAM and cache memory.
What advantage do you see of using NextGen instead of this reliable version of Primo2.4?
Thank you.

You are quite right,Primo 2.4 is a reliable and well presented program. I used it for a number of years in my aftermarket unit that i fitted into an Insignia.

However, it is now quite an old piece of software from around 2013 and other programs have passed it by. Don't get me wrong it is still the preference for many with WinCE devices. You can improve its presentation by using a "skin". I used the Dimka P174.

You say that you have 8gB of flash memory, which is quite adequate for iGO_Nextgen. You have to ensure you don't have other large files/folders that are memory hungry also installed on the drive. I use Nextgen on a 5" WinCE device that also has 8gB 0f memory.

You can also run 3rd party skins and also enhance the performance with add-on UX files.

no matters how much resident Flash memory is there in GPS device, I was speeking about RAM and cache memory.
For my use, skin is less important than fix location process speed and waypath recalculation for example.
