Has anyone tried "piggy backing" another Li-ion battery onto one of these units to give it extended power when not plugged in?
I use E-cigs and have several Li-ion 3.7v batteries upto 2950mah.
The default is only 950mah and i would like to use it in pedestrian mode as well as on my Mocycle :-)
I could always adapt the bike and fit a cigarette lighter socket somewhere inconspicuous but I would like a stand alone unit with more capacity.
Great question.
Firstly, the battery in them is surprisingly good. 950mAh on GPS isn't bad y'know? We had a weekend Road Trip round Wales using one and we only had to plug it in for the last hour on the way back. So yeah, don't write off the internal battery before really putting it through it's paces.
Secondly, they're just USB charged aren't they? You could easily buy a clip on USB battery which can provide anything up to the amount you're quoting from your E-cig. This would cost only a few pounds.
Thirdly, If you're really nuts, you could hack in a battery from another phone. You would need to remove the back cover and buy something like a Samsung Galaxy S1/S2 or S3 Battery, take two wires from the positive/negative (NO WIRE FROM THE SMART TERMINAL OR YOU'LL HAVE PROBLEMS!!) and then, run it flat and full charge. This should work and has been proven to work on phones such as the Nexus 4. You need to check the internal voltage of the Binatone F430 though as these batteries run at approx 3.8v.
If you do the third, make sure you take some photos
