Making PC igo8 display pos on map of my choice at start up (no gps att)

Todays test
Making IGO8 (emulator) start in chosen place?

When running IGO8 on my PC with no satellite (for testing, demos etc) it always defaults to a city 1000ks away

All I have been able to find is putting this:

[gps]
default_latitude="37.8035203"
default_longitude="147.2798787"

(my coordinates)
into sys.txt ot start.ini
Didnt work for me..

Any idea?

Thanks Bazzle

I'm not sure if this is the answer you are looking for but let me share my experience. When I first installed iGO 8.3, the map started with Los Angeles, California. I live in New York which is about 3000 miles away. So I went to find an address and entered my home information. The map changed to my location after I told it to and then I was able to navigate from NY. This was without any satellite lock though. However, the next time I started iGO without a satellite lock, it went back to Los Angeles, California. It was only after getting a real satellite lock that the map [next time I started it up] displayed the last location I navigated to and not California. The information was retained in the "save" folder. So, in conclusion, you might need a satellite lock to get your PC or device to actually retain your location - if you know what I mean. Hope this helps in some fashion.

This answer makes sense. So the last GPS location seems to be stored in the save folder. Does your PC has a GPS module? Anyway, your save folder on your PNA must contain important information, take a closer look at it.

I might have to connect an aerial and take pc outside :snooty: I know that would work but I want to find a way without connecting gps.
I can do it by sececting a location and dragging map around, not really a good fix.

Ive search thru the save folder with no luck to date.

I know "somewhere" I read a post on a forum about putting in a default Lat, long position . Thats why I tried the insert in 1st post.
No luck yet, Ill keep searching.

Have you tried copying the whole save folder from your device to your pc? or even the whole installation?

I did ;) What happens is it shows last place saved
That got me at least to my side of OZ :)

What Im going to do is when I get home tonight use the 'save' folder from my car into my pc.

It seems like its not as easy as just putting in X&Y coordinates into sys.txt
Would be good as you would be able to view a map position anywhere you wanted.

OK
Using the Save folder when I got home worked :) I can plan from my home addy map.

I will still investigate options for finding where igo saves those coordinates so it can be set up for anywhere.

All i could find in the save folder was this line... lastdestination="StreetName¤nCityName, LocalAreaName" in "system.ini".

I know if i turn off the device somewhere and turn it on again later somewhere else it remembers where i was until the device gets a satellite lock.

The file CITYHISTORY_V4.sav contains the destination history.

For me when the save folder is deleted and iGO is restarted the default map starting point is in London, but after a hard reset without deleting the save folder iGO remembers where i was, so therefore this data must be in the save folder somewhere.

EDIT: Those coordinates from post 1 point to an area of open sea about 350 Miles West from Japan, Was that intentional?
