map accuracy

map accuracy

Postby franka » Sun Sep 01, 2013 6:06 pm

until a couple of months ago I was using a Pogo Drive Sat Nav made by Origin. Although quite basic in its presentation the accuracy of the navigation was superb.

I have now got an aftermarket unit from China loaded with Primo2.4 using NQ_2013_130529 maps with all other utilities, buildings etc the latest versions that I could find on this forum.

I am using the FAST mode and the navigation routes are pretty poor. For example, I went today from Cheam to Edenbridge in Kent, a route I have travelled many times. With the PogoDrive the route was direct, using all good roads and got me there quickly.

With Primo2.4, as above, the first half of the route used identical roads but once close to my destination it decided to then travel on minor roads using a route I would definately avoid, and added at least half an hour to the travel time. This has also happened on other routes I have followed using Primo2.4.

If I change the maps to the Tom Tom_2012_130227 ones will this situation change?

First thing, try to switch the maps to TomTom as you wrote. keep a backup of your save folder so it saves your routes etc. (from NQ maps).
I heard from the experience of others these maps better in Europe.

Second thing to do, is to switch your program to iGO8.
After doing the above, you should get the answer what program/maps is suitable for your needs. Befor switchin, take another backup.

A lot of users say Primo 2.X has some "interesting" routing.

I have tried both primo and igo8. primo is visually better I think but igo8 was smoother and did take more direct routes

I am now confused.
I have downloaded the following TomTom files:-
MAPS TomTom_2013.03_130614.fbl
BUILDINGS TomTom_2012_130212.3dl
POI TomTom_premium_2013.03_130424.poi

I have also downloaded iGO_8_3_5_231128. In the download there are two .exe files, NAVON-BECKER.exe and WORLDWIDE.exe, can anyone tell me the difference between the two programs and which one two use.

I would also like to know if I can use TTS voices and where to get them from. Once obtained where do I place them.

Thanks for your replies so far.

I'm not sure what you're asking.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Sorry if my thread is confusing.

At the moment I am using Primo2.4 which is working perfectly but sending me down routes that I find frustrating. Therefore I am going to try iGO8 which from all the threads I have read appears to be a better program.

I have downloaded iGO8.3.5.231128 and in the core directory there are two .exe files, NAVON-BECKER and WORLDWIDE.

My first question is what is the difference between the two, or am I misunderstanding the download?

My second question is can I run TTS pro voices. If so where can I download them from and what folders do I put the files in?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for clearing everything up. Now I understand. I would rather you use my iGO8 instead of the one you now have. It has what you need [I think].

Hi chas521
I have written an SD card with your program, but, part way through loading it throws up the folloeing error:-
ffui error:unknown
object identifier identifier=[vIsInusa]
script"[unnamed]"command 0

This is followed by:-

failed to open file ui_igo8/common/ui/truck ui
exiting application

Can you shed any light on the problem.

Thank you very much.

I think I know the problem but let me ask you this. How did you install the program to your SD card? What exactly did you do?

Hi chas521

I downloaded your program file to a folder on my hard drive. I then loaded the folders in the 'content' folder with the English files, i.e. maps, buildings, speedcams, poi etc. Then I downloaded your version of the 'audio' and relpaced the one in the root directory.

I edited the 'systext' file as per your instructions for 800x480 resolution.

The' igo8' file was then copied to the SD card run in my GPS unit.

I hope all this makes sense.

It makes a lot of sense. For the most part, it sounds like you did it correctly. But here's my thoughts. It was a 2-part download. What you must do is this. Using "Winrar", extract part 1 to your computer and part 2 will automatically extract making on big folder/file that looks like part 1 and part 2 - but actually it's not. You need the 2 parts together.

The above is exactly what i did, but i didn't use Winrar I used jZIP.

I'll go through the whole proceedure again tomorrow and use Winrar.
