mute_os_key=1 in Primo 1.2

Postby Perplexer » Mon May 02, 2011 9:26 pm

In Primo 1.1, mute_os_key=1 (in either [debug] or [sound]) mutes screen taps so that it does not interrupt the iPod or radio every time I tap the screen.

This works GREAT on my Chinese 2DIN 7" GPS unit. But then I upgraded to Primo 1.2 and this doesn't work. Is there a different parameter that works in Primo 1.2?

Thanks!!

Try putting this in the sys.txt:

[sound]
ding=1 ;=0 no ding

Yes, I know that it's from iGO 8.3 but I think that's a general entry. Try it and let us know.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!

No luck with ding=0. I will try effect_muted=1 and report back.

mute_os_key=1 only mutes the WinCE screen tap sound, It doesn't mute Primo's own screen tap sound.

Go into settings->sound and warnings->volume->key and turn it off.

No luck, unfortunately. Primo and/or WinCE screen taps are still interrupting any audio that is playing. What is really weird is that the identical settings in Primo 1.1 works exactly as I want.

Settings/Sound/Volume/Key volume is muted.
Ding=0
mute_os_key=1
effect_muted=1
use_os_volume=0

Must be a change in the core functionality of Primo. mute_os_key definitely was the setting that fixed it for me in Primo 1.1.

Anyone have any ideas? I like the features in Primo 1.2 too much so I'd hate to return to 1.1.

Cheers,

Are you able to get into the WinCE control panel and turn off the screen tap sound from there?

No access to WinCE settings on this 2DIN unit.

Maybe I could create a custom autorun like the one in [color="red"][No links to other GPS forums allowed][/color] that disables screen taps, then launches Primo...?

If this device keeps it's registry settings then it will work but if it doesn't, then it won't.

The registry key that controls the screen tap is at...
HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\Screen
Change the value to 0 from 65538* to turn off the click sound.
However you will need to reboot the device to actually disable the sound.

[SIZE="1"]* Default value on emulator.[/size]

So if the device keeps it's registry then you can write the script and you only need to run it once to make the change, Remove the script and reboot, Click sound gone!

But if it doesn't then having to reboot each time you start Windows will be annoying at best.

Well, I had a good feeling about your suggestion, and took a look at the registry.

Unfortunately, HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\Screen is already 0. Here are the relevant keys:

HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\Key = 0
HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\Mute = 7
HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\Screen = 0
HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\Volume = -1

Also
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\KeyPress = 0

Thanks,

Hmmm, It sounds like it's Primo 1.2 causing the problem then, I'll have to load it up on my device and have a play.

Having the same problem here! Used to work fine in 1.1, but in 1.2 I already tried everything I knew and nothing works :-(

On some WinCe units it is built into the interface beween the gps and CE software. Normally only stops if you disable voice overs (Sound and warnings) from Primo in the unit itself. Some have a long press on sound or gps button to do this.

Go to [More] menu, [settings], [sounds and warnings], [volume], [key sounds].
Click on the speaker button to mute key sounds (or if there is no speaker button, move slider all the way to the left).
