This little app (Screen Calibrate.exe) forces the screen calibration utility to appear...

When it is active Windows CE is paused in the background, so no reboots from 3rd party software by lazy programmers.

From the success in getting the factory screen to appear (albeit briefly) means the card slot is available to the system...

The problem is how to run it on your device, sometimes 2577\Autorun.exe on the SD card works, as does creating a text file called SHELL.ini containing the path to the exefile, (\SDMMC\Screen Calibrate.exe) or it could be unique to the device, or there may not be one at all.

My advice Jim, FWIW, is to kinda abandon the old device and purchase a new one. The prices aren't bad right now. I know that you're "attached" to the old one but like I said keep it as a work in progress.

EDIT: Look on EBAY- Mios are good. I don't care that much for the MOOV series, but that's me. Personally, I have a Mio C320 and it is VERY easy to install navs to it. Look at my signature line.

this IS the work in progress :) There is no rush. We both use Android phones so use the nav on there. There is something about getting this one going that I like the idea of, especially after finding this site and all the resources.

Like you say, they are pretty worthless these days!

NO! I never said they're worthless. It's just that there are devices out there now with larger screen sizes and the ability to do more for about the same price you spent on the old device. In fact, probably cheaper.

Slim chance but try taking the Screen Calibrate.exe tool and rename it to Autorun.exe, Then place it in a folder called 2577, put this folder on the SD card that worked earlier, insert into device and reboot, This relies on certain processes running within WinCE, most of the time they're not!

Greater chance, I noticed from the unlock posted that the internal memory is labelled ResidentFlash, This is usually used on generic mobilenavigator devices that can use most brands of gps software, so take the screen calibrate.exe tool and rename it to MobileNavigator.exe (Note capital M and N) Place this into a folder called MobileNavigator, Create a text file with this text, \SDMMC\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator.exe and save it as SHELL.ini, copy SHELL.ini and the MobileNavigator folder (containing MobileNavigator.exe to the SD card, insert into device and reboot.

Still no guarantees it'll work, but worth a try...
