Postby k3n7 » Tue Aug 02, 2011 5:19 am

Mine is 480x272 res with IGO 8.0 inside & 2010 Indonesia Map

Can anyone help me how to upgrade to 8.3 version since I've been looking the link in the forum but couldn't find it somewhere...

Also what else needed to but installed beside the map & how to put, where to put, etc...

Please kindly guide me thru this entire process since I am just a beginner & also need Indonesia latest 2011 map if available any though...

Thanks.

First backup your sys.txt and your content (map/poi/dem/building) files to somewhere safe off the device.
Then get the program here:
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?1837-Working-iGO-8.3-from-my-device
Replace the entire iGO 8 folder on your device with the new one--make sure the main iGO folder and the main iGO8 EXE file are named the same as your old folder/exe.
Put your backed up content in the appropriate folders of the new install. Backup the sys.txt from the new install (just in case), and put your original backed up sys.txt in place in the (new) iGO 8 folder.
Now restart iGO how you normally do and see if everything works. If not, post the contents of your sys.txt and we'll go from there. Don't worry about any map updates at this point--just make sure everything works.

That would be normal.
The "old" one may be better tailored to your specific system since it comes from a working Igo (it can always be edited later to take out what may not be needed). The one in the download may not apply to your system AT ALL and many things therefore might not work--like detecting satellites or being the correct resolution.

Good!
If everything seems to be working, you can just leave it and test everything out for a few days just to be sure.
If you want to (potentially) speed up loading a bit and tidy things up, just post the contents of your sys.txt and we can take a look and advise you on maybe trimming it back.
Your map, that you say is from 2010, is really not that old and a newer update may be difficult to find for Indonesia (I'm not sure about this--check the map section of the iGo forums on this site), so you may just want to leave that alone too.

That first one is Out Of Control too much (sorry Author)!
Stick with the second one--it has all you need for now--including some specific settings that are lacking in the first one. Just keep the Big One backed up someplace in case you may want to copy a setting or two at some time in the future. Luckily for you, if you used the (new big) one, iGO 8.3x is smart enough to figure out some settings on it's own or a lot of stuff would not work. With the first one, mostly what you may accomplish is a very slow loading of iGo from time to time.
Now.......let's see what else your system may be capable of...maybe an even newer version of iGo. 8.x is on the way out.
Do you know how much Program Memory (RAM) the unit has? It would probably be either 64 MB or 128 MB. 128 would be preferred for any more updating.

it is 128 MB RAM I guess... now is the 8.3 right? so the sys.text now I am using is the slow loading one?

I am a firm believer in keeping the sys.txt file as minimal as possible. On a system I know nothing about, too many specific entries (which may be fine for someone who understands all the settings and likes to personalize things to a greater extent) can cause some trouble in diagnosing a problem if something goes wrong.

64 is not bad, it's just not optimal for the latest version of Primo (the next generation of iGo). But if you are now happy with 8.3x, there may be no reason to change right now.

Is there any big difference between 8.3 & Primo? Also I just checked the voice folder, only English (UK & US)...
Have another such as Indonesia?
What about languange for the device, in what folder or maybe file extension are they?
I am trying to use this first, since some said iGo has the function which can be a split view when in a branching road while others don't have, is that true?

If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.
