chas521 wrote:Hang in there because we're gonna do this. Let me explain it this way. I know that I kinda said it in the past but it's worth repeating. Upload hosts only accept files of a certain size so that's why I made two parts. When you extract part 1, part 2 automatically extracts as well. I just did this with my program and it did not say anything about duplicate files from any part. This is what's confusing me as to why it's happening with you.
???
I have two different .rar files here. FamilyPicnic Part 1 and FamilyPicnic Part 2. I have to manually extract each one, from my desktop, to the folder I want the files to go into. It doesn't do it automatically for me. I am using WINRAR 4.01 from your link in one of the posts you directed me to.
I got the file links from this thread...

You don't need to extract each part individually. Just extract part 1 and part 2 should automatically extract without doing it manually. Watch the blue progress line [?] to see part AND part 2 extract.

It doesn't. Not sure how else I can say it. I extract part 1 and when it is done it is done. I then have to do part 2. I have to do each part manually.
There are hundreds of duplicate files in part 2. I stopped counting at 110. Everything from DATA to iGO8.exe to smaller .dll's and such. File sizes match exactly.
It is like part 2 is a clone of part 1. Part 2 is not as big( only 142.75 MB )but it has a lot of the same files on it that part 1 does.

I'm completely bewildered. Yes, there are many files that are the same in both parts but they are not complete in most cases. That's why you need both parts extracted to make one big download. This is why you're getting error messages. I'll give you a link to the latest Winrar and you could try that but I don't see why it would make a difference regarding versions.
[Please Register or Login to download file] What OS are you using? I wonder if that's why? Do you have access to XP or Vista or 7?

My home computer uses XP SP3 right now. Need to upgrade it at some point.
I don't know if your WINRAR is setup different or something? Maybe something needs to be changed on mine? It definitely doesn't do it automatically and it is overwriting duplicate files( or not depending on my answer ). Here is how WINRAR is setup on my computer during extraction...

For information I use win XP sp3 with winrar 4.0 and it has always just worked, I can compare settings in case an option has been turned off later if you like...
The files will be chopped up across several archives, this is why you get duplicates and corrupted files when you extract each part individually.

As Chaz has mentioned, you need to extract ONLY PART 1!!!. Once extraction of part 1 is complete, it should have included what is contained in part 2. If you extract part 2 after you have extracted part 1, you are actually re-doing the full extract. When you extract part 2, it knows that the other part is in part 1 and it would extract that as well. That is why you get duplicated files when you extract part 2, because everything has already been extracted when you extract part 1.

Ok I sort of follow that but I am still confused. I have part 1 and part 2 on my desktop. I had to download both. So I only extract part 1? What do I do with part 2? Nothing? I feel dense but I don't get it?
I have downloaded part 1 and part 2 onto my desktop( saved them at download vs run ). So I only extract part 1 into the folder and I don't do anything with part 2 other than download it?
UPDATE - WHAT A PUTZ!!!!! I just did it again and paid more attention. I started extracting part 1 into an empty folder and watched very closely. At the very end , very briefly, it swapped over to part 2 as you all said. So "I AM WRONG". I will work on doing the edits and such and see if this fixes it and let's it work. Should be able to post the results in a maybe 10-15 minutes.
Sorry about that. Totally honest mistake. I just didn't see that part 2 show at the very end it happens so fast.

EXACTLY! That's correct.

Do I have to keep all the extra resolution files I don't need? Can I just keep the 800_480 ones and delete the rest to speed up transfer time?
Fri Apr 19, 2013 8:20 pm
Don't worry about the other files for now. Just get it going.

as alredy mentioned with winrar you should extract only part1 and you should get an uncompressed folder size of 474 MB for FamilyPicnic with 11.485 files and 110 folder in it .
Did you tried 7zip from
[Please Register or Login to download file] to extract the two rar files ?
Well i do use both , never had problem of crc with 7-zip
Fri Apr 19, 2013 8:23 pm
Please use Winrar and not 7-zip. 7-zip creates crc errors in the extraction.

I hate to say this but I already told this in post #20.
Or didn't anybody notice ?
