Newbie Question For Loading IGO8

Postby nabi » Mon Apr 22, 2013 7:35 am

Congratulations !!

I really did think of that, but feared not the original files but the original sd would be the issue to avoid. That is messing with the original sd. Never ever a good idea! That is why I did not mention that.

Conclusion, the devices software is in need of hidden files on the SD to let the navigation software work fully (with sound). Hmmm, the hidden TTS files? I have never seen them hidden before. Doesn't matter.
When you can update maps (from here that is) and all works, you can easily update to a newer (only 8.3.5 for now !!) build by replacing the igo.exe. At a certain point you may need to replace (or add) licenses as well. Also a new data.zip and/or branding.zip may be required some day. But as Chas521's signature says: If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I didn't mess with the original SD card. I am a newbie for sure but I wasn't touching that other than to backup the files on it to my computer. That is why I worked so hard to get this done because if that fails or gets lost I am screwed. I wanted another SD card I can use and keep the original hidden away safe.

I just used the files copied from it I have saved to my computer( it is backed up through Naviextras toolbox too so I can always restore it to factory image as long as the SD card is good ). I used a new SD card, added the original file copies, then added the 2 things from chas521's version to make a working combo of our 2 versions.

It has to be more than the hidden TTS files as I tried copying them onto the SD card with chas521's version previously. Actually, I copied everything to his version that I could see was different and I was able to. The only things I couldn't were in the DATA.zip( there were differences in there ). The only other thing I didn't copy to his was the sys.txt.

So adding parts of mine to his on a new SD card failed but adding parts of his to mine on a new SD card worked. Also, I notice when my version and now the combo version is loading that it has more things it goes through vs one of these other cracked versions and the older 8.3.4 version. I think something starts out with GE809 which I believe is radio specific settings as the radio is a GEE-0809 but I can't say for sure.

Anyway, it is working and the original is now safely stored away. That is what matters.

Yes, I used the maps and POI's from here on the Navitotal SD card. Unfortunately, I can't use them on the mfg supplied SD card for the radio though. No big deal though as this Navitotal SD card is what I am going to use. The mfg supplied SD card for the radio is going to be kept safe.

No, it was a piece of cake.

Here is the working version per request. Only 2 things...

1 - it has chas521's igo.exe and license folder as the ones from the radio mfg will not work without the original SD card.

2 - No maps/POI/dem to save space

Everything else is there from the mfg supplied radio SD card.

[Please Register or Login to download file]

EDIT - Almost forgot. It will come in a folder called GEE0809. That is NOT how it is on the SD card. When you open the GEE0809 folder that is how it goes onto the SD card for my radio. Had to do it that way as the devinfo file has to be on the SD card but outside the navigation folder. The navigation folder would be called IGO8 for most of you I guess.

I'm really glad to hear that it's working with our content at Navitotal. This mean, because you're now using a cracked license that you'll be able to update your contents for free rather than having to purchase it. Incidentally, your device was the hardest one that I have ever encountered in the years that I've been doing this. Seriously, I really AM glad that you persevered.

EDIT: I'm downloading your program right now. I HAVE to see where it's modified or what.

Be sure and let me know if you see what it is.

I appreciate YOU guys sticking with it. It benefited me so I was staying until all hope was lost. I am just glad you all didn't bail on me.

:grouphug:

I generally pay for things and do it by the book so to speak but I am so frustrated with the radio mfg and NNG that I decided screw them. They sold me a known defective item and totally blew me off and dumped it all on the seller( who was great! ). When they finally fixed it and replaced it they screwed me out of my newest map guarantee. If they aren't going to play by the rules and treat me right why should I worry about their rights.

I will use this Navitotal SD card as my main navigation card so I can keep it updated and not go broke buying over priced maps and POI's that I actually do need to keep updated due to my Dad who is elderly and ill. I need to be able to get to an ER fast and we travel some so current maps and POI's are vital for me.

Anyway, thanks again.

Now we need to get Primo working on it. :rofl_mini:

@gsthunder

It appears that your device [from your program upload] doesn't have any speedcam or red light warnings. If you're interested, just look here http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?11896-US-speedcam-text Simply delete everything in the content\speedcam folder. Put only the speedcam.txt in content\speedcam. Shutdown your device, wait a few seconds, restart and let the program create the necessary files it needs to work.

Thanks. I am not worried about that stuff as I drive like an old man and we don't have many speedcams in my area. I never speed so it shouldn't be an issue for me even on our travels but maybe I will add them just because I now can( you all have corrupted me! :s016: ).

I was just coming back to ask you a question. You have a thread in the maps/pois/dems/building forum that says NA buildings/landscapes. Can I use that in my version?

Forget Primo in the US. I find that it doesn't navigate properly. My advice, stick with iGO8. FYI, you want Navteq maps and TT for IGO POIs. Yes, you can use both maps and POIs from different companies at the same time.

They're only eye candy and do nothing to help with navigation. Forget dems. If you want to have the buildings, stick with your state only. Buildings only show up in major metropolitan areas not everywhere. File for buildings goes into content\building.

What brand is TT? I know Navteq is the best brand for US maps. I am only asking about the buildings as my Dad is fascinated by this thing and when I mentioned it has 3D buildings in some areas he wants to see it.

What is a DEM file anyway? I have them for my program now. Do they change and get updated like Maps?

I was actually kidding about Primo. I actually am very happy with IGO 8.3.5.######. Works great.

TT is TomTom. They bought TeleAtlas some time ago and now produce content for iGO as well. TT POIs [formerly TA] are much better. Dem files are terrain files [hills and such] but they can cause an error message regarding memory - probably not your device though. Overall, I don't think they're worth it though.

Ok. Thanks for the tip. So just grab TT POI's from the TomTom forum and they will work on my nav software?

Also, here is a new challenge for you and the others if anyone is interested. When you download my program see if you can tell me how to do something about the following...

When IGO loads, before it opens the menu screen( I am fine with it going to menu vs map - prefer it goes to menu actually ), I get a warning screen about entering info while driving and such. I have to hit an ACCEPT button for it to proceed on and finish opening IGO. It is a PITA! Hopefully that can be disabled.

It didn't appear on chas521's version, nabi's, or the 8.3.4 the other seller sent. Just when using the info from my files. Somewhere in there it makes it do it. I can live with it if it is complicated or may mess up the works to shut it down. If it is easy to disable and it won't mess with anything I would like to get rid of that.

No to those POIs. I'll upload what you need. Download them and place it as the ONLY file in content\poi.
