North America (United States, Canada & Mexico) HERE (Navteq) 2014.Q1

Postby waiapasi2006 » Wed Sep 03, 2014 3:03 pm

I am currently checking this new updated map 2014Q1
As for the 2013Q4
These are the contents with their ending letters.xxx:
xxxx2013Q4.fbl
xxxx2013Q4.fda
xxxx2013Q4.fpa
xxxx2013Q4.fsp
xxxx2013Q4.ftr

For the 2014Q1 here are the contents with the ending letters.xxx:
xxxx2014Q1.fbl
xxxx2014Q1.fda
xxxx2014Q1.fsp

I noticed there are 3 types of files(2014Q1) vs. the 2013 five types.

Here comes my questions:
1.Do we need the other files ending with ftr,fpa for the 2014Q1?
or are those 3 the complete map?
2.If we do need them, can we use the missing ones from 2013 or not?
3. Do we know if there is a update for the Buildings?

Thank you.

Gee, life can be easy when you can use a set that, even not complete, fills your need fully :tease:
Problem is such questions do pop up and then the answer is ...

I do my best.

For an explanation of the extensions (and what folder to copy those files in) : maps-buildings-dem-poi-f82/where-put-map-related-files-igo-primo-t11326.html

I do not know if and when the other files come available. Maybe Filesupload100 knows as he normally handle these matters. During his absence I am just helping out. Of course the files must be shared by someone first.

My problem to your question is: I am not living on the US side of the Ocean, nor am I ever using Navteq/Here maps. I said more than once that those maps don't fit my needs and are not accurate (not accurate enough for me!) in this country, so no driver alerts (fda). I am not driving a truck (ftr) either.
Fpa is an extension file for house numbers. In the past TT/TA maps did not have those files at all (had more(all?) housenumbers covered in the maps) but recently I see the newer maps of the bigger Europe countries also are accompanied by fpa files. I do not know the reason for that (even more detail?). As for most countries, for my location there is no fpa. So I cannot tell about the importance.

What I mean is this: I do not know if the software picks up the files when their release is not equal to the map release. What I was told, and I don't remember if I tested it in the past, is that the software always picks the most recent maps. So if you have the old set 2013Q4 and the new 2014Q1 set, the 2014Q1 mapset will be used. I (and most) renew all files at once.

About Buildings - just use the old files, they will be recognized and used, no problem here. (The very same with POI.)

Will the old fpa, fda, files work with new maps? This is exactly what I am not sure of. The relation of the files and the folder they are in. I think that the files to be used must be the same release (at least the same maker) when in the same folder - thus fbl/fda/fpa/... while the other files (3dl/POI/... are in separate folders.

But again, not 100% sure
