My opinion

Wed Aug 11, 2010 7:19 pm

For those of you who have been reading here at navitotal.com for awhile now you know my personal experiences with Primo and the navigation problems that I have encountered. Recently I upgraded to v.1.1 and today was the first time that I had a chance to try it on the street navigating the same route that I tried with an earlier version. Before with the earlier version I would rate it at 97%. The Primo people have definitely improved v 1.1 and now I would rate it at 99%. Still needs some work but vastly improved.

Conclusion: I would recommend Primo v 1.1 without a doubt. But iGO 8.3 is still a drop ahead in my book.

and why iGO 8.3 is still a drop ahead in your book ? :)

Because I personally find the navigation in iGO 8.3 to be 100% and I also like the options better. I seem to have more control. Primo is more for the beginner I feel. But it's still good!

Don't get me wrong. That Primo video was impressive for sure. But most of those elements are not available here in the US. We haven't even gotten the maps for Primo yet. I'm sure things will improve more as new versions are released and as time goes by. You can't go wrong with either iGO or Primo.

i guess it means, your driving and you see a POI Fuel Station on your screen,
you then click on it and your GPS gives you turn by turn directions till you get there :P

You mean it takes control of the steering wheel? Now that's cool!

I was only joking with you. I pretty much know where/what I need because I'm in familiar places most of the time. But it would come in handy in those unknown places.

Honestly, I don't know because I never tried it. Let us know what you find.

LOL.... I actually feel like the previous versions of Primo were a bit nicer and ran a bit smoother. That is just my opinion though. It's no secret I have been sold on Primo from the beginning. Mostly because it provides a ton of functions without the need for a skin. Nothing against skinning, but it just feels better to have the program running as intended without a lot of tweaks. I'll be giving 1.1 more of a whirl this weekend. I am still working out some kinks with TTS. I really like the older Loq voices and hope that some advice chas PM'd me will work out some of the problems. What's funny is that 1.1's TTS seems to work good at first start, but then quickly seems to crap out on me. I'll have to play with it some on a Windows computer and see if I can work out the kinks. As chas stated it might just be a matter of adding a line to one of the .ini files. However, I have some newer Loq voices that I hear work as is and will try messing with them soon enough and see if they will work as is. I still see no reason to go back to igo8... even though some of the new functions aren't available in North America, it is still a more thought out product than igo8 is IMO. Hopefully soon we see some 2010 maps.

No sure if that is of any interest here, but in "collection" on the GPS I had massive problems with TTS too.
I had several versions on the device : 1.0, 1.1 ,1.1modified - up to 3 but only the real old ones were working.
I forn several Loq* DLLs in the different releases , 6.0 6.5 and 6.9 after completing my Primo with the missing DLL files I was able to use all TTS voices that I have on the device no matter if the are listed as 1.0, 1.1 or 3
