Out of Memory (Chinese GPS and v8.3.5.193799 - 27 May 2011)

Postby jcocker » Thu Dec 06, 2012 4:52 pm

Using the above version of iGo on one of this devices:
[Please Register or Login to download file]

Everything works well when driving in and around town, However, whenever I take I long trip (100's of miles) I get an out of memory error (I think the text says something about Low Resources...). Resetting the device gives me a few 10's of mile until it happens again.

I have so far removed (although would have been nice to use, and hence the reason I bought a 128MB device):

- dem (can live without, but will be nice to have)
- Buildings (don't need)
- TTS (don't need)
- POIs (don't need

I do use:

- diMkaWertVRV_1147 skin (really want to keep)
- Around 30 groups of POIs (user data) - total file size around 4MB.

My SYS.txt file is attached.

Tried to use with iGo on internal memory (4GB), or SD card - no difference.

Any idea how to resolve this?

TIA.

Even with DEM, TTS,etc, 128MB should be sufficient. Thus :

What else is running before iGO starts?

My thoughts too...

The device has an option to allow you to set the path to the gps program - mine points to the igo.exe file.

I turn the device on, and then click the icon that starts it.

Only thought I have is that I very rarely turn it off completely - I tend to put it back in its case still running - it goes to standby mode after a period of inactivity.

Also, I only get the memory error well into a long drive.

Can you get to the windows control panel?

\Windows\Control.exe, go to the system option and tap on the memory tab, the slider should be as far towards the left as it will go, sometimes it's in the middle which means you have half the amount of memory as you should.

And when you turn it off completely before making that long drive?

Thanks. Checked and it is on the far left as it should.

I'll be honest with you - I cannot remember...

I tend to do a lot of short trips, and the odd long one every few months. As I have never had a problem with the short trips I ever checked.

I only had one long trip since I got the device, and this is when things went wrong. As I was driving at the time, I simply clicked "Ok" (or similar) to close the error message pop up. This took me back to the screen you get when starting the device (with all the icons), and I clicked the gps icon again to restart the program. I therefore did not have a chance to boot the device after a crash and see if it returns. After working for a while, the device crashed again.

Once I arrived I again made several short trips without a problem. On my return (long) trip the problem returned...

It's not that easy to give a straight answer. Your sys.txt has a couple of unneeded lines, but that cannot be it.
Where did you get the iGO8.3.5? Possibly it's a faulty build that only shows when driving a long way.

I got it from here - the one with the same name as the title of this thread, so I assume that it has many happy users.

BTW, what is not required in my sys.txt?

Have you tried my program? Works 100% - all the time. Just sayin'.

Try reducing your user poi's. A set of user poi's 4 MB in size is quite big.

I suppose I can, but this is really the only feature I really need. I can happily live without dem, buildings, TTS, etc.

Just installed it to give it a try.

Notice 2 problems so far:

1. As soon as I try to select a POI (Find->POI->Around Cursor) I get the error message "unable to open file writeable.tmp" and the program crashes.
2. I cannot set the cursor to the "standard" blue arrow - I always get a car (which I don't like...)

2. In the GFX folder, are the car.mdl and the civic_blue.tex files. Back them up first and then delete them. Shutdown your device, wait a few seconds and then re-start. You should have the arrow back. You also may need to delete the save folder or re-name it.

1. Can you post what your content folder looks like?

See full list of files and folders under iGO 8.3.5.183522_16Mar2011 attached.

Also, I tried to delete the two files you mentioned above (and the save folder). As soon as I get to the screen asking me to choose between "Simple" and "Advanced" mode, regardless of the one I choose, the device boots, so I cannot go past it... All is well again (at least past the mode selection screen) once I return the two files.
