primo 2.0 - 9.6.2.209584 can not find GPS-receiver

Postby heinz57g » Sun Jun 09, 2013 7:27 am

since the friends in the german-speaking forum dont seem to read here very often, and vice-versa, i am posting my quest for help here too:

never look a gift horse in the mouth - specially if it is a present you asked for yourself, and if it is from your own wife! who now wants to see what it is and does ...

china-GPS, no indications which brand, relatively well made, with a DVR camera, and, according to seller, a iGO version installed by factory (see above).

but: the unit cannot find the GPS receiver. top right the greyed-out sysmbols, later in the prog the ''Waiting for GPS signal' and ''Automatic search for GPS-Receiver'', nevermind how long one waits. hours.

the path to the prog on the card is correct, and some 6-8 satellites are actually well received (there is a check possible before the actual iGO starts).

where do i continue my search? asides from my own self-confidence, but somehow i cannot avoid having to 'proudly' show it to my wife some day ...

greetings - heinz -

@heintz57g

Of course you also made the necessary entries in the sys.txt - correct?

Probably the German forum is not read much by the folks here is because it's in German which practically all of us don't speak.

hi chas521, forgive me, but when i buy a car, i might check the gas/tires/oil, but then i just sit in and drive ... if problems develope, i will find out where to ask questions - a garage, a workshop, a freind, maybe even in a forum.

such a simple person i am - not everybody is a specialist.

when i buy a GPS (i am on my 5th over the years), i unpack it, check the basics, charge it, and then use it - so it has been since this new one. i do not know (before reading about it here) what is a sys.txt, and what entries there should be. there are, to me, some one million options - and the chances of me making a mistake and screwing up things are right there. so i better ask before, no?

and when your wife is on your back, you tend to ask quickly ...

well, there IS a german section of this forum, and i assumed it had a purpose too. so, me being german, i did ask there too. mistake? i just wanted to apologize in advance if anyone considered this a 'double posting'.

hi ovalball, you made my day. erasing everything in the SAVE folder, but not the folder itself, did the trick. the system took a while, but then went thru the setup process, and found the receiver with no problem. did 600+km today (with the wife right next to me), and proudly showed of all those functions i had no idea the thing had.

but as chas521 indicated: i have a lot to learn.

many greetings, many thanks, and a nice rest-sunday - heinz -

PS: and yes, i DID back everything up before any changes were done.

@heintz57g

I wasn't inferring anything negative about you possibly being a NOOB. I was just giving you a suggestion to try regarding the sys.txt. Sometimes it becomes necessary to "force" the device to see certain things. Remember, we were all NOOBS at one time. If I insulted you, then I apologize!

you did NOT insult me, chas521, i would have made it very clear if you did. it was just a reminder that not everybody is of your 'class' here, but that on the other hand we depend on you for solid info - and i will read all about SYS.TXT soon, so just be ready for more silly questions ...

many greetings - heinz -
