Primo 2.0 Auto on/off

Mon Jan 09, 2012 1:46 am

I am now using the new primo version 2.0 and was wondering how to make it turn off automatically when the power is disconnected and turn back on when power is restored to the unit as per my previous version i was using primo 1.2.

thanks chris

What type of unit is it installed on, and what happens right now when the power is disconnected?

i am using a marbella gps unit and when i unplug power the gps unit runs off battery power instead of counting down from 10 like the previous version did

Add this to sys.txt...

[interface]
shutdown_time=10

10 = Ten seconds
5 = Five seconds
0 = Feature disabled

Turning the device back on is hardware dependant.

ok thanks for that. if turnong it back on is hardware department why would it happen on the previous version of primo i was using?

Because the device supports it.

hi.. i have similar question about auto on-off feature..
im using mio c320 (sirf atlas III). this device have auto power on feature when the power is plugged..

the problem is happened during auto power on (the device wakes up from auto power off/sleep)..
the program keeps restarting every time wakes up..
this problem does not happened in primo 1.1 version..
is there any setting in sys.txt that can improve this problem?

The answer is NO! When you put the device to sleep, it loses connectivity to the SD card and when you wake it up again, it has to re-establish that connectivity to the SD card. Therefore the re-start.

This has been discussed time and time before, What happens is when the device is asleep, the card reader is turned off, As the device is woken up Primo tries to access the card but can't because it's not been initialized yet, (we are talking micro seconds here) iGO thinks there's a problem and reboots the device. as far as I'm aware this has not been solved. On Windows Mobile you can adjust the registry to prevent the card reader from turning off at the expense of battery life, I've never made this work on Windows CE.

I think card reader turned off is the right mode specially on wince, cause most of PNAs have the same button for suspend mode and poweroff, only press a little more time. Maybe you think poweroff the PNA, but it is really only asleep, so, if card reader is on and in such unfortunate moment you take your SD off...crash&format

Moreover battery life. If got totally empty, which would happen more easily, a lot of devices need 8-12 h. for recharge, even scares their owners because no led lights on when they plugged it and let them thinking about his device is bricked.

i found the solution for my device (mio)..
the solution is don't use external SDcard.. so, i run the miopocket program from its internal memory..
also the primo program is located in its internal memory..
this way it can work well, no restart at all.. but if the external SDcard is attached, the problem will happen..
i think the problem is due to my SD card already degrade its access speed.. because initially i have no problem with primo auto on/off feature.. however, i dont have other SDcard for now.. so i cannot test using new one..
