primo on SD card on mio moov 300

Postby dannyu » Fri Dec 10, 2010 12:18 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to help a friend installing Primo on his MioMoov 300 unit.
I've installed it into the internal flash and it works great. The problem is
that the internal flash is limited and only small content volume
can be used (i.e. 2-3 maps).

So the solution is to use an external SD card that will store the content folder
and instruct the Primo to use that content (Chas521 and/or Nabi explained
how to do it a few weeks ago).

My problem is that it doesn't work. The error message which is displayed is
"globl_cfg not found" and I couldn't overcome this so far.

When I tried putting the primo also on the SD card and activate it (after changing the shortcut on the desktop) the response is the same.

I'd appriciate any tip what needs to be changed/added (in sys.txt I guess).
Let me just add that on my MIO-C310 all works great (Primo and content
on SD card).

Thanks,
Danny

Let me explain what I did. When I first started playing with the various nav programs, I also made the "necessary" sys.txt entries so as to share content. As a result I started also to get that error message. What I did was to put all the navs on one SD card with the content being separate for each program and added the sys.txt entry to Primo:

[folders]
has_secondary_root=0
so I could have all of them on that one card. Unless there is a space issue this is what I would recommend you doing. You also might want to limit the number of maps you need to what you actually use.

Thank you, Chas521

I fully remember what you did and I was able to perfom it on my C310 without any problem.
On this MioMoov it's not working for some reason.
Currently I have all the NAV files including content folder on the SD, and it's still produces this error message.
Obviously the files are correct as when they are copied into the internal flash of the unit, it works great.
So taking your advice (limited maps) is already working, it's just that by doing so, my help will be required again and again (and my friend doesn't live close by).

Thanks,
Danny

Danny,
The first question I have to ask is did you use the proper unlock for the MOOV? Standard Mio unlocks do not work on the MOOV series. Next, when you look into the content folder do you see the global_config sub-folder? Also, your friend might want to forego using Primo and use igo 8.3 instead. I personally think it's a better program - but that's my opinion.

Also, tell him to delete the save folder. A new one will be created when you start the program the next time.

Yes, the Moov is unlocked and is working fine with the internal flash.
I've kept the original miomap 2008 and also added Igo-8 + Primo. All of them runs great, so I guess there is no
problem with the unit nor the unlock. The limit ofcourse is that I can use only 1-2 maps.

I don't have the global-cfg folder - should I create it? What needs to be in it?

Thanks,
Danny

You don't have that global folder in Primo content? No wonder it's not working. You MUST have it to work. Where did you get the Primo d/l and which one is it?

EDIT: Go to this link and yes, create the folder http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?3894-New-global_cfg-for-iGO-Primo-2010Q3 Do not unzip the global_cfg file. Just put it into the folder you created.

Thank you, Chas521

I really embarressed. I copied all of the Primo folders/files from the internl flash to the SD card, but for some reason the global_cfg folder was not copied. So obviuosly it didn't work.

So now I copied it and everything works great.

A small question about that: the global_cfg file you indicated is much larger than the one I currently have-
I understand that the recommendation is to repalce it with the newer one (I can test it ofcourse, but there might
be some issues which I won't bumped into on a quick test).

Thank you,
Danny

That is a new global file recently created by a member and it has additional features. Try it and if it doesn't work right just go back to the original version.

I've tested it and it's working, so I'll use the new one for now.

@ Chas, it's the latest OFFICIAL global_cfg file.

@ Danny, you will become an expert one day ;)
