CA meaning California? I am not even sure there is a single state dem file.
Two things:
(1) you do not really need a dem file, it takes up lots of memory too. Only thing you miss is the relief view.
(2) we do not have a living link to dem files, and I do not have America on my PC

If I can butt in here with my two cents. As Nabi said, the dem files [terrain] are NOT necessary for the program to work. They are pretty much just eye candy and can cause errors in the operation of your nav program. To make matters worse, even though an area has terrain features, not all areas will show up on a map. It's not worth it IMHO.
