Primo long time loading

Mon Nov 05, 2012 5:17 pm

I have just installed Primo 2 onto my Wince device. It loads ok in the end but when it gets to loading voice contents it stops for what seems an age before moving onto the next stage of loading. Can anyone please suggest if I can speed it up a bit?

Question: loading voice content, 1 voice, 2, 3, 17, 29, ...?
How many voices are there loading and do you need them all?
Same for languages.

I have deleted all the languages except one but it still seems to take an age to get past language ready........

What device is it? One of my devices has a slow processor and it takes a while to load too, but is ok in operation.

It's a koolertron sat nav, just got it.Its one of those all singing all dancing double din units.Seems to run Primo 2 ok but doesn't load like it does on my Wayteq 960.Its only half a minute or so but seems longer when you are sat looking at it!

Was Primo copied directly from another device? some remnants of the old device might be causing problems.

Did you try deleting the old save folder?

Yes I just copied the SD card. The original SD card that came with the device was 4g although the contents only took up 2.I have put my new Primo onto a 2 g card.Would it help if I used a 4 or even an 8?Dont know much about this flash memory business but in the chinglish user manual it does say 4 g flash expandable to 8.I didn't delete the save folder because I wanted to keep all my old history, etc.I can do this if it will help though. Thanks again for all the help.

The size of the SD Card has no effect on the speed of the program...unless it is a faster spec SD Card that is supported by your device.
As long as everything fits, and two SD Cards are the same spec, whether it's a 2GB card or a 16GB card...the speed will be the same.

As has been mentioned, there are probably 'old' settings from your other device that Primo has to slog through...possibly slowing it down.
Copy your Save folder to your PC for backup, and then try deleting only the system.ini file from Save\Profiles\01\.
This will 'reset' all the hardware related entries and rebuild them on the next startup so it is specific to the device (you will have to go through initial setup again to set your preferences), but should retain Favorites, History, and other stuff you may want to keep.

Thanks I will give that a go.Really appreciate your support as I am still getting to grips with Primo.

It also depends upon the class of the SD card. A class 10 SD card is faster than a class 2 SD card.

Ok thanks,I will get one of those and see if it makes a difference.Apart from the time to load it runs like a dream.Could anyone tell me how many kml files I can put into userdata/poi and would putting a lot in make any differencce to the boot up time?

How many? As many as you need and no more than that.
Technically, yes. Every content-type file added may affect startup time. Some so insignificant you would never notice, others drag as they are read and loaded. Once loaded, no problems on a 128MB device. But you have to decide sometimes which is more important...quick starting or enhanced full featured map display. You often can't have it both ways.

That's is probably my problem.I have userdata poi files, truck files etc etc.I will just wait patiently for 30 seconds while they all load!

If you have loads of individual poi file's, it might be worth combining them into one file.
