Primo 2.0 Triple Icon (ballons)

Postby Tightend » Mon Jan 16, 2012 5:39 pm

It looks to me as though the behaviour is the same, it's just that the command to turn them off:

[poi]
use_multi_poi_icon=0

which still worked in Primo 1.1 and 1.2, no longer works in Primo 2.0

Thanks Fatboyfun and Yurbuh Tuggly,

In igo8 if we put the command :
[map]
poi_distant_distance=200

it means that after 200 m we saw the Triple icon (3 small ballons) such as a small blue point in the map.
But in Primo 2.0 this command is false, if I put this command I see in Primo 2.0 with the default skin 3 ballons.

Also in Primo 1.2 with the Stancy or jgeorg2003 branding.zip if we set in sys.txt the following command:
[poi]
use_multi_poi_icon=0

then we don't see the triple icon.

Furthermore if in Primo 1.2 we set the following command in sys.txt:
[3d]
max_pois_on_horizont=5

then we see only 5 pois in the map while we have check all the categories and the sub-categories of pois.

I found out that if we set in Primo 2.0 the following command in sys.txt
[map]
poi_mapping=5
then we have only 5 pois in the map while we have check all the categories and the sub-categories of pois but still maybe one of the 5 poi-icons it might be the triple icon.

It seems there's currently no way to turn off the multipoi icon by sys.txt setting (or else the command has changed and we need to find out the new one).

You can make it invisible though by deleting sprite number 74 from the graphic file poi_mapclose.bmp (file is in data.zip/ui_igo9/480_272) like this:

1. Extract the bitmap data.zip/ui_igo9/480_272 and convert it to .png with iPAQ 31x Image Explorer.
2. Open the .png in Gimp or Paint.net.
3. Erase the triple balloon icon (it's near the bottom), leaving just a transparent space.
4. Save the .png - don't change the resolution of the graphic (it should be 32-bit).
5. Convert the .png back to the special iGO bitmap format using iPAQ 31x Image Explorer.
6. Save the bitmap back to data.zip/ui_igo9/480_272.
7. Restart Primo. The icon will actually still be there, but now invisible.

In data.zip\ui_igo9\icons\poi\ you will find multipoi.icon, Open it with Notepad+ and erase the rows no. 2 & 3.
Let only the first row: $poi_mapdistant.bmp
Use winrar 4.xx for opening data.zip.
The same procedure for branding.zip if the file multipoi.icon is available.

@ Yurbuh Tuggly

I'm trying to add custom poi's with custom icon to my primo on iphone 4.
I red your post :
iGo Primo 2.0 Build 9.6.5.211211 (Dec 07 2011)-Torrent --TBM

and tried to use your ui_igo9, but I did not manage to get the custom pois.

I can't find any info how igo primo iphone uses poi-icons.
Could you give me a tip?

Sorry...I know absolutely nothing about any iPhone releases.
Whether they work the same or not, I would not have a clue.
Nothing I have ever released or discussed may be applicable to iPhone.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

You want to post in the iPhone section here. Our mod Multipazz is the expert there.

After thinking about it for a bit, I can only offer this logical observation:
When converting some things from Primo (WinCE version) to Primo Android, folder names must be changed from ui_igo9 to ui_android.
It would follow that, for iPhone, the folder name might be ui_iphone or similar.
After that, everything would be a guess...what should the resolution_size folder be? Do all graphics need to be resized or converted to a format other than *.bmp? I don't know.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

Sorta. The ui_android folder within data.zip is the 'factory standard'...generally not to be messed with. A lot of important stuff in there that is easily corrupted if not handled correctly. Any customizations should take place in a created ui_android folder outside of a *.zip file in the main folder structure. The structure within the custom ui_android folder can mimic the folder stucture of the ui_android folder within data.zip. Primo will use this automatically as it starts in addition to or instead of what is present in the data.zip. Same with a ux folder.
So the structure would be like this:
4941
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

So, let's see if I understood this:
I will have to copy the ui_iphone from the data.zip to the root directory and make my tests and research on that new ui_iphone. Is that right?

In your ui_android you have the resolution folder , might it be possible that this folder is call iphone or iphone4 on the apple device?

No. That will do no good. It will only repeat what is already set to go. Achieving nothing in return.
For an example of a customized ui_android folder, see here:
Primo-Android-9.6.7
The European full color POI Add-On Pack section under [color="#800080"]Skins:[/color]
(you can download it just to take a look at the structure).

jumperger wrote:In your ui_android you have the resolution folder , might it be possible that this folder is call iphone or iphone4 on the apple device?

Yes, something like that is possible. Apple devices have set resolutions..Android (and WinCE) devices do not..they vary by hardware. Android and WinCE rely on {pixels}x{pixels} folders to determine things. For I-Devices, the same could be done with {device name} folders.
However, will (usually *.bmp) icons set to work at specific resolutions in WinCE/Android work in IPhones? I have no idea.
Is it possible that the POI Icons pack could be adapted to work on an IPhone?
Definitely maybe. But it may require somebody who knows more about those devices to fiddle with it.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.
