Primo 2 on unlocked Mio Spirit 685

Postby luvss » Sun May 12, 2013 5:16 pm

Everything works great except TMC. Even the TMC seems to be scanning several local channels (UK) and displays a full green bar at times. However, no events are displayed at any point in time. I've tried several routes but none of them seem to display any events. I am assuming that it needs to show events even though it doesn't affect my route.

I've read several threads on this forum regarding TMC hardware port is opened and closed only with the stock software is launched and other navigation softwares cannot make use of internal TMC receiver. But I am bit confused by the fact that a full green bar is displayed and scanning several local channels but events are never displayed.

Has anyone managed to workaround the issue or is it something that I am missing?

TIA

You need to be tuned to Classic FM, from memory it does show events without a route loaded.

Yes, it is tuned to Classic FM at 87.5 frequency and shows a pretty good signal; yet shows 0 events!

Classic FM is not broadcast on 87.5, it's up in the 100's, 101.7 is (I think) my what it is in my region.

Thanks for the suggestion. Understandably, it defaults to 87.5 on which the signal is better, unless I use the Dimka skin and force it to use 100.6 (and some frequencies on either side) for Classic FM in my area (as suggested on FM website). It's not able to pick up the frequency at the moment...pretty weak signal at best with no events.

The status, as identified through Dimka skin, is "No TMC". Don't understand if it means TMC is not enabled at all? If that was the case, would it still scan and display the frequency and channel names?

Using GJ skin, I was able to see different frequency and channel names yesterday when I was driving, but 0 events. However I wasn't able to set a specific frequency with that skin.

I don't think any radio station broadcasts on 87.5, so i don't know what it's picking up, that frequency is used for FM transmitters etc

Ah..ok! So, it's not actually picking up any TMC frequency at all. May be it's just scanning the FM channels which explains why there are no events displayed.
Wonder what else to try to get it working.

Tune it to Classic FM, that's the only nationwide TMC channel, although there are some local channels available.

Does Primo also require a licence in the licence folder?

The problem with TMC on an unlocked Mio Moov is that the register value of SW_TMC, Protocol is set to 0 (standard value for TMC with the Mio s.w.)

To enable TMC on a Mio Moov this value must be set to 1

Incorporate below lines into the start-up script.

Notify = RegRead("HKLM", "Drivers\BuiltIn\SW_TMC", "Protocol" )
If ( Notify = 0)
RegWriteDWord("HKLM", "\Drivers\BuiltIn\SW_TMC", "Protocol", 00000001 )
Sleep(300)
EndIf

Enter the following is sys.txt:

[tmc]
auto_tuning="1"
saved_config_available="1"
saved_config_classname="NMEA_GPSTMC_GNSPORT"
saved_config_port="1"
saved_config_portname="COM"
saved_last_tuning_mode="1"
source="GNSPORT"
port="COM,1"
baud="14400"
internal_tmc_name="gnsport"
tuner_alg_search_force_on=1
tuner_alg_search_timeout=10000
tuneralg_rds_packet_timeout=6000
tuneralg_8a_packet_timeout=6000
tuneralg_3a_packet_timeout=20000
tuneralg_last_8a_packet_timeout=10000
use_new_standard=1
show_all_provider_list="1"
auto_band_search_up="1"
show_tmc="1"
tmc_all_stations="1

Finally use Dimka skin P171.
This skin gives the possiblity to set the TMC values.

Many thanks for the inputs.

Yes, TMC is working with above settings, although the signal strength seems flaky. Also, seems to be working only with Dimka skin.

Changed the skin to my preferred one, GJ skin, but didn't seem to pick up any tmc signal...may be it was just a coincidence with weak signal, can't really say.

2 questions:
What TMC mode is suggested in Dimka skin - Primo Auto tuner?
When iGO shows traffic incidents, the channel name is displayed as an ITIS-related station (although I can't remember the exact name or frequency). Is there a way to get iGO locked to that ITIS-related station only?

No thanks. I got TMC on the Mio Moov funtioning only with the Dimka skin.
Of course one can modify the TMC.ui module of the GJ skin.
I mostly use the mode Auto(Scan+List) Tuner.
One can also use the Fixed station option.
The selected stations are stored in file save/profiles/01/userlists/tmc_stations.txt and looks like this:
Station name;frequency e.g. SKYRADIO;101.5

Sorry, I have no idea what an ITIS-related station is.
