PrimoPOI

Postby Yurbuh Tuggly » Mon Sep 05, 2011 1:11 pm

Requirements:
Windows PC to install and run program--with internet connection.
GPS device running iGo 8, Primo, TomTom, Garmin, Navigon, or Sygic navigation software. Device must be able to connect to PC by USB cable or other direct connection or by utilizing Microsoft Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Center.

The program allows you to find and install directly to your GPS device dozens, hundreds, or thousands of POIs from a variety of sources (some free, some by subscription) with very little effort.
This version (1.6.6) fixes the sudden crash and disappearance that occurred in previous versions when using the program in English.
PrimoPoi is a program that invites Icon collections from the Internet and install them directly to a supported navigation system.

Basic Procedure:

- Connect GPS via USB and turn on

- Primopoi.exe call

- The first time, a configuration window that can be reached at any time via the menu item Tools / Options

- From the possible sources of a few select interesting
(Not too many people downloading the information from the external servers telweise lasts very long!)

- Select the navigation system (the system folder on the navigation system should be automatically recognized, if not the system folder'...' can be set)

- Click on 'Apply' to start the program that now graze on the selected server.

- Sift through the main window to the left of the server / Categories (or use the search box) and in the right half Poisammlungen which you want to have a navigation system, select.

- Selected collections appear to the left under "Selected Collections"

- If you are finished selecting 'Start Synchroniation' on the Poisammlungen and their symbols downloaded from the servers and copied to the navigation.

- Navi remove and restart.

- Set to the Navi still considering whether and which of the pois you want to see on the map.

The program saves its data in "% appdata% \ PrimoPoi". There is also a cache, perhaps you should delete if you no longer use the program wants.

The first call takes unbearably long. Subsequent calls thanks to the cache much faster.

-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------
New in 1.6.6

Better handling when different navigation systems are synchronized (1.6.1)
Locally were imported Pois "undeletable" Fixed (1.6.2)
After Blitzer upload the settings could not be called. Fixed (1.6.3)
Crash if you selected the language to English. Did not know that my English is so bad. Fixed (1.6.4) (thanks @ X 6)
Sygic country improves (?), Test (1.6.5) on dual navigation systems in the config (thanks @ Resig)
When opening a saved 'ini' more than the "selected" from the collections for choosing to take. (1.6.6) (thanks @ Franzen)
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------
New in 1.5

- Read now also Garmin gpi files
- Supports therefore the collection of GarminOnline.de (Note: Extract are the 300 MB!)
- Can now bring together different collections to a poi-
- You can now Shift-Klick/Control-Klick/Control-A with several collections in the right pane and use a context-menu features on all selected.
- Garmin fixed

The easiest way to explain the merging of different Poisammlungen an example:
If you e.g. the collections of pocket navigation, TomTomovi and PoiPlaza and wants all Poisammlungen Aldi merge to one, so you type "aldi" in the search selected, the result window with Ctrl-A from all. Now when you click on an item with the right mouse button, a context menu. Now choose "Add to ..."->" new Poisammlung". The night window, can now be a new name, the group and the radius can be entered. The data in the fields to be taken of the simplicity of the entry on which you have just clicked. The default radius of 50 m should increase with Pois with large area (approximately real, are probably at Aldi's 300m). After clicking "OK" Pois be fetched from the servers together and POI's that are located at a distance "radius", performed only once.
The new Poisammlung be found under the heading 'Local' under the selected name. You can always add more Poisammlungen, the new collection can be found under "Add to ..." in the context menu.

Many thanks to hansiwenna for the fine work on this utility.

Personal note:
I am not an expert on the use or operation of this utility. I successfully used it once to install a very few POIs--I do not use, nor do I recommend loading up scores of POIs that could bog down your system--especially if it is low on resources already, and I will probably not use it regularly. I just wanted to make sure it worked before posting it here. And it does.
So if you ask me (or PM me) questions about it, you will be sadly disappointed in the responses. You are on your own with it. However, I posted this here in an open thread so that others may share their expertise and experiences.
Note Two:
For easier and faster synchronization with your GPS device when using this program, create (if you don't have it already), a folder under {iGo/Primo}/content/

Don't go by the picture. It's not my screenshot. I stole it from some site and I think it's probably old.:rolling:
There are many services available (POI Plaza--are they not worldwide? Maybe not?) that may not be shown. Install it and find out maybe--it does no harm to your PC, and uninstalls gracefully if not useful.

It's just that looking at the picture and the directory structure, all I see is Garmin UK. Nothing about NA. There's always this if the members are interested - but ONLY for iGO8 and Amigo and not for Primo http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?3983-Various-icons-for-iGO-8.3-and-Amigo-POIs

OK, lazyboy. :usa:
Here are the services listed in the program setup:
PocketNavigation
pois.gr
GPSPassion
AlpenRouten
GPS-Data-Team
Posit.se
Poi.cz
PoiGps.com
ArchiesCampings.EU
FlashMot.com
Poi-Service.de
Bruxelles5.info
PDIs.es
TomTomOVI
PoiPlaza
GarminPOI
NaviFriends
Todo-POI.es
OZPoi.com
PoiPoint.pl
Poi-Factory.com
GarminOnline.de
Flitspaal.nl
GPS-Evasion.com
Geo-ES.com

There. Are some of them Euro-centric? Certainly. Are all of them? Beats me! Last time I looked at a map "OZ" was not a part of the European continent.
:unknw_mini:

Oh, and BTW--the program also does Speedcam files. I did not mention it, because I did not test it. But I use one of the sites listed for my speedcam files, so I assume it probably works.

Not quite...among the choices offered, RapidGator still works. I just tried and successfully downloaded.
When multiple download options are offered, always try them ALL before giving up. Some remain active for far longer than others.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.
