Problem-cant go to the main menu

Postby kpavl » Sat Nov 17, 2012 6:28 pm

hello, i am new user and i have a problem. I installed iGO 8.3.5.183522 and it goes directly to my navigation and there was a resolution problem. I tried to fix it and i got into .txt file and changed one resolution to 800x480, but not the second and now i cant go out of my navigation to make my navigation connect to my PC via USB. Help?

You just learned a valuable lesson. NEVER go ahead and start editing ANYTHING without backing everything up first or asking here first. I could have fixed your device without any trouble.

I assume that you put the iGO8 program on a SD card. What happens if you just remove the SD card and then re-start your device without the card installed?

EDIT: This is what was suppose to go into the sys.txt after removing any entry referring to 480_272:

[interface]
resolution_dir="800_480"
vga=0

[rawdisplay]
highres=0
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
class="landscape"

Don't forget to delete the save folder.

Hello and thank You VERY MUCH for answering. I have GPS like this [Please Register or Login to download file] it has 4 gb of internal memory.

I deleted everything from GPS and i instaled iGo 8.2. I think and iGo Primo.

I had old iGo 8.2. and iGo Primo and I downloaded the new iGo 8 and put it on my GPS with name iGo 8 and i renamed my old one to name iGo 8s so it wont open it right away. I have those 3 on my GPS.

I had resolution problems so i tried to fix it and I was in a hurry so I only changer one resolution (interface to 800x480) and now i do not know how to put my GPS to usb mass storage to change it because it opens navigation right away.

Please help me because it is my dads GPS.

Let's try this. What happens if you rename the old program back to IGO8 instead of IGO8s and the new one to IGO8s and then try to re-start it?

Have you seen my second message? It says that moderator need to approve it.

I cant connect my gps to pc without making in the main menu of navigation to usb mass storage. I cant go to main menu because it opens gps igo 8.3 right away.

First of all, I AM a moderator. I'm trying to understand your problem. If your device is going straight to the navigation program, then what exactly is the problem? I hope you understand my confusion.

Excuse me, i know that you are moderator but I couldnt see my message so i was wondering.

I changed the one resolution and now it shows me only 1/4 of the navigation screen and the other 3/4 is the boot picture. The navigation picture is cropped so i cant click on anything except the upper left quarter.

But now you can see your post. I think I now understand your problem. The new iGO8 program IS working but you need to get into the sys.txt so you can make the change I said above but you don't have access to seeing the device in "MY Computer." Am I correct?

There are a couple of things you can try. 1. Is there a CD that came with your device? If so, there may be a program or necessary file that you might have deleted. 2. You can try "Total Commander" that might help you see the device. It's free. 3. You can try "Free Commander". Same as Total Commander. 4. You can try contacting Deal Extreme and perhaps they have a CD that will reset your device.

That's also a good idea but make sure that you put my sys.txt suggestion in post #2 on it and make an edit.

Some devices are necessary to completely start up first before you connect the device to your computer via the USB cable. Have tried doing a hard re-set? Hold down the power button [after you've started the device and its running] and keep holding it down until the screen goes completely blank. Sometimes that resets it.

I tried and held the power button and it didnt help. My idea about the sd card didnt work. I did also press the Reset key on the back. Nothing helps.

Because you deleted everything first that is a big problem. Try writing to deal extreme. Maybe they can help. Is there a name on your device [and model number]? Perhaps another member out has the same device and can help. Maybe you can contact another purchaser of your device from deal extreme and they can help? FYI, deal extreme has forums on the site. Post your problem there as well.

EDIT: I wasn't talking about the reset button but the POWER [on/off] button.
