Problems with Erisin728G Double DIN 7" Car DVD Player GPS

Postby intoxicated » Fri Sep 14, 2012 10:12 am

Greetings to all. I'm a full beginner in this GPS world. Please forgive me if my posting is not in a right place. I really need help for my problems.

Recently I purchased this Erisin 728G Double DIN Car DVD Player which has a GPS feature. The GPS software was supposed to be placed inside the SD-card accompanying the DVD Player unit. But the SD-card was empty, there was no software at all inside.

The seller said that I should look for IGO8 software to be placed in my SD-card. I downloaded an IGO8 software (it looks like for a PDA or some sort), I've copied the files inside the card, and then I put it inside my SD-card slot. When I turn the GPS function on, it displayed this message: "Application database is not found". Please help me resolve this problem, as I'm not only a beginner in GPS but also in technical things about this system. Thank you very much for any helps provided.

Regards,

That means there is something wrong with your file structure or the paths defined within the software (such as within sys.txt in your "IGO8" folder).

You have not stated what you downloaded, or where you got it from, so until that is known, it will be very difficult (or impossible) to try to help you specifically.

the specifications are good and you could run any version of iGo8 or the newer Primo2 from here:
Programs
As long as your resolution (800x480) is supported. Chas521 iGo8 does, and so does my Primo2.
If you did not download from this site, it will be better if you start over with one of our downloads since we know the programs and can support them much better.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

Greetings. Thanks for the quick response.

I don't really know about file structure of IGO8, I just copied to my SD-card without any changes. I think I'm going to look for the correct file structure, I'll compare it with my files. Thanks for the tips.
Also, please explain to me about this sys.txt file, yes I saw this file in my IGO8 folder. I'll make the correct adjustment with your guide

Forgive me for my incomplete information about what I need. I'm so desperate that I didn't see the rules for asking any help in this forum. The software I downloaded is IGO8, from a torrent network. I forgot the torrent source, it's just said that it works. Again, forgive me for not noticing the rules, these are all new for me

Yes, you're right, my unit is Erisin 728G just like the one in your link. All the specifications are exactly like mine (I bought it from them). The only difference is the free SD-card, it is not 2GB but 4GB SDHC Class4. I'll try your suggestion right away, I'll make the report after I've made my attempt to replace the current IGO8 with suggested iGO8. I'll also try the Primo2 too. Thank you very much for your help.

Sys.txt (in the root of any iGo or Primo folder) controls or helps the program with specifics for a particular device, and other settings. Edit it (if necessary) with Notepad on your PC...do not use a "Word Processor", then copy it back to the SD Card.
If you get Chas521's iGo 8, you will need to make the following changes at a minimum:
1) Remove the following:
Code: Select all
[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

2) Change this:
Code: Select all
resolution_dir="480_272"

to this:
Code: Select all
resolution_dir="800_480"

If you get my Primo2 (and follow the instructions in the post), you probably will not have to do anything except copy it to your SD Card and perhaps point your device Menu to it if it is not automatically detected...maybe the device has a "Settings" in the menu where you choose to browse to the navigation program of your choice on the SD Card.
If you use something downloaded from someplace else, you (and us) would be playing a guessing game as to how to set it up and get it to work on your device.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

Actually, I think he needs to add this;

[interface]
resolution_dir="800_480"
vga=0

[rawdisplay]
highres=0
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
class="landscape"

Don't forget to delete the save folder.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

Greetings. The iGo8 provided is running well on my unit. This is marvelous, and I'm so happy.

So this is a GPS software. It looks complicated, I think I'm going to look for an operating guide if there's any. Right now, I'm trying to find out where's my location on the screen, I hope I can get it soon.

BTW, it said something about TMC, what is this TMC means? Is this important for a GPS?

Thank you very much for the great help, this is really awesome. I hope I can fully understand the way this system works. Again, thank you very much for you all.

Glad you are happy and got something working.
GPS software, like anything else, has a learning curve. Some prefer one over another for various reasons.
For a "User Manual" for iGo8, see here:
user-manuals iGo
(do not be concerned about the language (Russian?) on the resulting page from the link..many are English PDF files and you should be able to figure out which you need [color="#FF0000"]EDIT[/color]: Or just click "English" in the upper right of the page...duh! LOL!!!)
If you choose to also try my Primo2 distribution, a Manual (several, actually) is included in the download.
If you apply any 3rd party skins to any iGo version, many things can change appearance-wise, but the basic operation is the same.
TMC stands for Traffic Message Channel, and they are special signals that are broadcast on FM frequencies from various radio stations and contain information about traffic conditions, road blockages, accidents, congestion, etc.
CAN be very useful ... various versions of iGO can use this information and automatically adjust a set route to avoid delays and/or offer alternatives or at least read the information to you if they affect your route AND you have a TTS (Text To Speech) voice installed and active.
TMC can be very device-specific to set up and get working with some software (and it depends on your local area if it would be worth the bother...example: TMC in some countries is free, but not in others...widely available in some countries, and non-existent in others).
With Primo 2, it is likely that if TMC is available on your device and all necessary files are present (typically, a *.dll file specific to your device is required in the iGo Program Folder), it would be automatically detected. iGo8 requires a bit of tinkering with sys.txt...USUALLY...not always.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.
