Satellites visibility problem

Postby nabilone » Fri Jun 03, 2011 11:51 am

Primo 1.2

Dear friends,

I have a problem with my satelittes visibility (as shown on picture).
Although GPS fix is OK, the satellites information is not present on "GPS informations" section.
As you can see, the Fix OK (precision : average) but 0 satellite available.

Any idea?

Thanks

You are not a newbie, so I guess you have clear view etc ? All conditions are met to see satellites?
Is this happening only in Primo1.2? Or using other nav soft (Primo1.1, iGO8, ...) as well?

Hi nabi,

This only happens with Primo 1.2 (i'm using Build 9.2.1.179499).

What do you mean by "All conditions are met to see satellites?"

Remember that I have Satellite fix (that's work), only sat visibility on sat information screen.

Thx

I have the same problem, as is only on Primo 1.2 also. It's more a graphic error than a software or hardware problem.
The GPS connects ok, say high or average signal.. but in the display no satellites are shown.
I also find that it does not happen 100% of the time, if i suspend the device rather than shutting it down, then they are displayed, but also this is not everytime in this senario.
But saying that it does not appear to cause any problems, but would be nice to see how many satellites are connected at the time.

Honestly, I never looked at or bothered with that particular graphic display--do I have enough of a lock to navigate with?--that's all I really care about.
However, the diMka skin for Primo 1.2 has an option near the speed display (optionally the speaker on/off button) to also display (tiny, but readable) how many satellites are currently locked onto and their respective strength. That works.

I found this solution, on a french forum :

adding this on sys.txt :

[gps]
port="x" ;<<--- your GPS port com
baud_rate="xxxxx" ;<<--- your GPS baud rate
set_messages="0" ; <<-- This line is supposed to resolve satelitte visibility issue

It seems to be ok but I have some doubts. I feel that information about satellites is not refreshed in real time.

If jessecj can test this solution and give us fedback...

I have a feeling that Primo 1.2 has changed the way the satellite data is read which causes problems with devices that cache their gps data.

There was another thread recently about erratic vehicle speed displayed, Possibly a bug? i don't know.

Personnaly, I put it and it works. It seems that it works in both cases, with or without " ".

most of the time it takes ages for the satellites to go green... even being in the open with no trees or buildings.. on primo 1.2
it was a lot better on igo 8.3.. they normally locked straight away
i just like the skins on primo.

I have tested Primo 1.2 with the lines that Nabilone suggested to put in the sys.txt file in all senarios, and it has appeared to have fixed this issue.
The satelittes are now showing up everytime i go into the graphic display.

Thanks Nabilone.

Cheers
Jesse
