Screensaver 'clock' to 'speed'

Screensaver 'clock' to 'speed'

Postby vs2 » Mon Apr 29, 2013 8:07 pm

Hi. I have searched everywhere for this. I have a DDin 8" wince 6 car navigation system (800x480)and I have installed primo which works great (thanks). I have set the systems screensaver for 2 minutes and it shows an analog clock.
Question: Is is possible to change this to a large basic analog or digital speedometer (kph)?
Thanks.

Yes, there are little apps available that display speed from the GPS on the screen...

I have one included in this unlock... http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?5221-Universal-Shell

It was called Speedo.exe, but i remember it was a bit buggy on some devices, however there must be others available...

Note: It is an application that you'll have to start manually, i don't know if you can integrate it into the devices screensaver, unless the screensaver is an separate app.

Thanks and I appreciate the work you have put into that but I'm looking for something that is integrated into the screensaver for wince other than having to go into 'guider' and switching between speedo.exe and primo.exe

Nice idea. But I doubt that you'll find anything like for now. Maybe in the future???

Wince usually doesn't have a screensaver, This will be a part of the devices menu system, it's possible the clock screen you see is an external application, and may be able to be replaced with another, if not, and it's just another activity within the menu app, then there's not a lot you can do.

Yes you are right. The menu button under settings is call 'saver' and has a simple option to set how many minutes of just 'off' mode. Could speedo.exe be put in its place? I guess it would require programming and registry edits etc.

You would have to get access to the file system and have a hunt around for exe files, if you can work out which exe file is the clock screen, it may be possible to replace it with the Speedo app, this is all theoretical though.

Thanks. I will have a play. Can speedo.exe be downloaded as an individual file?

Edit: Universal Shell DL link not working.

Having looked at the spec and images, I think the clock app is external. Perhaps if you can find the exe for the clock yes you can, you can just replace it. If not, you'll have to make do with the one loaded from sat nev executable.

Thanks for all your help.
Kind of got it to work. Renamed speedo.exe to saver.exe and put in to Nflash/applications and the screen saver works with the speedo. Problem is with GPS/Ports. Seems like Speedo and Primo cannot share the GPS info and one will not work with the other running.
Any ideas to get them to share the GPS data stream.

You will have to use Portsplitter, this takes the GPS port and splits it into two.

ie, GPS port 2 -> Portsplitter
Portsplitter -> port 3 and Port 4
Port 3 -> iGO
Port 4 -> Speedo

Portsplitter saves it's data in the registry, so if you don't have a persistent registry you will need to use a script to write it back every time the device is started.
