Hi,

A couple of weeks ago there was a post by someone (Chas521 or Nabi if I recall correctly) about
sharing a single content folder by two nav programs.
As my MIO-310 can handle only 2GB SD card, space is quite limited if I want to use all 3 NNG nav
applications. I tried to begin with sharing the Primo content with IGO8 but so far withour any success.

I added the suggested line to IGO8 sys.txt file (content=%SDCARD%/Primo/content) under [folder]
section. When the IGO8 starts there is an error message that "voice files not found" and the
application terminates.

At first the IGO had no content folder at all.
Afterwards I added a content folder to the IGO8 but with an empty MAPS folder (as it is the largest folder),
but still it's not running. Obviously something needs to be done differently.

Can someone please enlight me what is wrong (or maybe list a step by step instructions).

Altering Sys.txt.
If your shared content folder is under iGO8's program folder alter Amigo's sys.txt by adding the following:

[folders]
content="\SDMMC\iGO8\Content"

If your shared content folder is under Amigo's program folder alter iGO8's sys.txt by adding the following:

[folders]
content="\SDMMC\Amigo\Content"

If you are sharing a common folder like in the example above alter both iGO8's & Amigo's sys.txt by adding the following:

[folders]
content="\SDMMC\iGO_Shared\Content"

Note: Make sure that you alter the appropriate paths shown above to suit your own SD card name and program folder names if different to what is shown above.

If you are using TTS (Text to Speech) you may want to go just that little bit further and share your TTS_Loq folder in a similar manner. Just add a new entry under the [folders] section of sys.txt something like this:

tts_loq="\SDMMC\iGO_Shared\TTS_Loq"

Now you can delete your surplus \Content and \TTS_Loq folders (you did take backups of course just in case). The total card space savings are quite significant particularly if you are using the Australia.dem file which is quite large (the Oceania.dem file is a lot smaller but has less detail).

I don't know where you get that iGO8 sys.txt information to be edited about sharing content but it's not from Nabi or myself. That entry was completely wrong. It had to be from another forum. NoService is correct.

In adition to his post, what I would do is placing the content folder next to the iGO, Amigo and Primo folder

like this :

root
..> Amigo
..> content
..> iGO8
..> Primo

This way, the content can be used in each program, without problem.

Then sys.txt, in iGO and in Amigo, looks like this:

[folders]
content="\Storage Card\content"

In Primo:

[folders]
content="\Storage Card\content"
has secondary_root=0 ; do not search for other igo distributions

[color=black]This should work without any complications.
If any (like, let's say you need different language files for iGO and Amigo), you can add in Amigo
[color=blue]language=[/color][/color]"\Storage Card\content\amigolang"
[color=black]and in iGO
[color=blue]language=[/color][/color]"\Storage Card\content\igolang"
provided you create a folder amigolang (containing amigo languages) and igolang (igo languages).
Primo needs the same change.
And for maps, voices, etc, the same principle. It's possible you need every line in each sys.txt. Don't know why, but on some devices it is. Must be the Windows CE adapted by the device manufacturer.

[color=black]O end, this is an example for Primo sys.txt TTS lines[/color], depending on the used voices.
tts_nua_v5="\Storage Card\content\tts_nua_v5"
tts_loq="\Storage Card\content\TTS_LOQ"

Glad to have you Danny but take another look at eskro's post or any post in that thread, you don't see a[color="red"] %[/color] anywhere.

That % depends on the device and Windows version. In fact the devices/manufacturers version of Windows.
On some it won't work without the %, on others like mine, it won't work with the %. So the % is a syntax problem.
Like you read in the thread, I share the content without problems (as is upss) and without the %.
In short, it's device dependable what the sys.txt lines should look like exactly. There is no such thing as a uniform sys.txt.

Ok, now I understand your meaning.

The %SDCARD% appears in my IGO8 sys.txt file as an indication of the application's path (maybe it's redundant?)
app=%SDCARD%/IGO8 (if I'm not mistaken - I'm writing it down out of my memory).

I recall that PRIMO and AMIGO syntax doesn't use the % character (my unit is not in front of me at the moment).
But in any case I'll check it and perform the required corrections.

Danny, the syntax can spoil it here for you. I should have stressed it more.
Very often, it's a detail: a % or no %, a / or a \, the sd card's exact name, ...
If one program works, the syntax should be the same for the other.

Before you can use systempaths like %sdcard%, There needs to be an item in the registry telling the system where %sdcard% is located, If those registry items are removed by the manufacturer then Windows won't know where %sdcard% is.

A quick report:

I've done the suggested splitting.
Now I have a content folder in the root of the SD card and IGO8, Primo and AMIGO share it.
All is working ok except the issue of languages. I couldn't manage to divide the language files for Amigo
from the language files for IGO8/Primo by definning seperate lang folders as you suggested.
The applications did not like it and couldn't start. I overcome this by putting all lang files in the same lang folder
within the shared content folder.

It's not the full solution but I can live with that,

Nothing wrong with what you ended up doing. I do exactly the same thing, all language files are in the LANG folder which makes more sense. Amigo is using the GRO files and iGO is using the ZIP files, there is no conflict.

I realize now that the iGO-like programs are very picky about the folder name. So it was a bad example I gave.
Nevertheless, one more happy member ;)
