Yesterday, while driving and I was very close to my destination in an industrial zone, I got a popup saying "This route requires a special permit" or something similar which I cannot recall. The popup window had an OK button below the message, but when I clicked on it nothing happened. So, with this popup blocking the screen, the GPS was practically not functional. I do not know what would have happened if I had driven a bit further, but that was not of my interest at that point. Eventually I had to turn-off the device (obviously without exiting Primo) which is not a good step since one may get corrupt files. Is there a way to suppress this kind of message(s)?

In the options [settings] select [put a check mark] in private roads. You also may have to delete the save folder or rename it to saveold. If it doesn't work for you just rename the saveold back to save after deleting the new save folder that was created.

I cannot find private roads anywhere in the settings. Can one do it with a sys.txt entry?

The option is in route settings, scroll down to see what types of road should be included in route planning...
Also...
If you entered your vehicle dimensions in the vehicle profiles menu, iGO will warn you if you are heading towards an unsuitable area, like low bridges, weight limits, etc, this even works for cars, untick "Use extended settings" to turn it off

This is where I was looking at. And I have
Motorways
Period Charge
Per-use toll
Ferries
Carpool/HOV
Unpaved roads
Environmental Zones
but not private roads. Here I have to say I am using 9.6.5.245577, perhaps it makes a difference. This is why I was asking if I can solve the issue with a sys.txt entry.

I think it's Period charge..? ie, you might pay for a permit to access a private area.

I doubt, this should be related to tolls, like the per-use toll.

Per use toll is for bridge tolls, ferry crossing, other one-off charges, etc...
Period charge is a restricted area, ie, private housing estate, industrial area or anywhere else you need a permit to enter.
I get this during route planning, but not while on route, see the second point in post #4
Also consider the map data may not be accurate or as up to date as it should be.

In iGO8, it's called private roads [I'm pretty sure]. Not in Primo I guess.

Even so it "should" of closed when you hit ok. Its just a reminder.

I could find "Route Planning->Road Types Used for Route Planning->Permit needed" both on Igo 8.3.4.102680 and Igo 8.3.5.183522.
The above is when I use the English interface in my app.
If I change it to my native language, Hebrew, this "Permit needed" is translated to Hebrew "Through Judea and Samaria", that is relevant only here, in Israel, so, I'm not sure about this option in other regions.

This is precisely my problem.

In some countries, for example Austria, all the tolls are under the option period charge (and not under per-use toll). In these countries, one does not pay tolls by passing through toll booths with bars etc, but one just pays a fee to get a sticker valid for a given period. For example, that could be 10 days, a month or a year depending on each case.
Put it another way: if one is in such a country, say Austria, and in the route settings the per-use toll is not selected but the period charge is selected, then the GPS will give her/him a route which goes through highways which require payments of tolls.

I think this may qualify for period charge.Where i am bridge tolls (including tolls where you can pay monthly or in advance for a tag (Severn Bridge
) and get unlimited crossing) are under Per-use toll, Period charge, when selected allows routing along restricted roads, eg, time restriction, gated communities, other non-public highways, etc...
If i have the option on it will warn me during route calculation that a section of my route needs a special permit, and the section of the route shows on the overview in red.
What
may have happened is you may have gone off route slightly and the device picked up you were in, or were approaching a restricted area, and warned you.
When i was experimenting with entering vehicle dimensions i used to get all kinds of warnings on the screen, all of these messages could be dismissed with a tap, and these warnings were controlled by the "Use extended settings" in the vehicle profile settings.
Your device froze for some reason when this happened, this may have been a one-off.

Hi Fatboyfun, thanks for going into this.
The "Use extended settings" has been always off in my settings. (I checked also the values and they are normal car dimensions, but as said it is always off).
Even though I have the most updated maps, and despite the message I got, I know this should not be a restricted area. Ιt is an area where many companies have their warehouses, so I had to go there to pick up something. But it is an area which can probably be easily misinterpreted as a restricted zone or something similar. But this is just clearly a map problem.
Maybe I was unlucky and it just froze for one single time. I will have to go there anyway at least one more time, so I will see what happens.
