Still trying to fix dad's Mio Digiwalker 269+

Postby sep1i » Sat Oct 16, 2010 8:47 am

Backing up content of \Storage Card\ to my SD.
I wonder what technology it is using to tranfer the files, because it is super slow. Currently it's copying the original Europe.map, so I guess that is going to take all day.

Ah! That was a waste of time! I have the original DVD with the Europe.map on.

Now I have updated the rom to the official 269+ R15.
Off for a few hours fixing my car. Will continue later tonight.

That's a start. You would probably find backing up to your computer faster than backing up to the SD card. That's how I backed up mine. Plus all of Europe is pretty large. Can you reduce it to a smaller area? Plus do not use the whole of Europe speedcams because that is too large and will probably cause memory errors.

There is a program there for your device model that gives you the opportunity to see the internal drive.

I'm still not sure I actually know which program you're talking about. MioTransfer only sees an empty disk, no matter what I do. I think it only browses the /MP3 dir on the \Storage Card (which of course is empty). Since it shows there is 694 MB free space, which is exactly how much space there is/was left on the /Storage Card.

... Nothing for you to do except backup first before you do anything.

I've backuped any content I found, using FileMan in MP4, apart from the Europe.map, which I have on the original dvd.

Once you can see the internal drive just download and extract the 3.3 that I uploaded for you to the internal drive. It has the unlock already included. You will copy all that I gave you to an empty device and SD card.

Jumping off the deep end I used the small WinCE Explorer to erase all content from the internal drive and copy your 3.3 there instead. Then I put the iGO8 dir on the SD-card.

Time to start it up! Fingers crossed!

The iGO8 map I chose is only of Sweden. I grabbed one for Europe too, but figured I'd test with a small one first, since I thought I may have to copy it on and off the SD a couple of time during testing.

Only a few seconds before first boot after chas521:ing the Mio! :-)

First test failed.

System boots; I can choose language; interface comes up; looks like the old Mio interface, but there are apps missing (Calculator and Picture Viewer, which I know I erased from the \Storage Card), clicking their icons simply displays a message saying that they aren't installed.

Clicking Navigation ... small error window "No map on hdd or sd". I'll copy the old europe.map into /miomap/maps on the sd and see if that works (just as a test).
[EDIT] This seems to not work. Tried both /miomap/maps/Europe.map, /miomap/content/maps/Europe.map and /maps/Europe.map. Still, it finds "no map on hdd or sd".

Sadly, it doesn't seem to show all the cool stuff you probably have in your 3.3 install. Or I copied it to the wrong place! I'll know soon enough :-)
If I am to copy it to the root of what I see when starting the small WinCE Explorer, then I still have a few things I must backup first.

[More editing]
Well, since I'm now well into messing with the system, I am now moving all files from /Storage Card to /My Flash Disk. Perhaps I have just not understood that to be the correct path before. We'll see. It's going to take a long time copying all that.
DUH! That didn't work at all! /My Flash Disk is only about 10 MB in size (I've said that before). I can't fit anything there.

When I said to backup your device, I meant ALL of it. Not just the content. But what's done is done. You put the map in the wrong place. First of all, you are NOT using MioMap at all anymore. You are now using iGO 8.3. Open the iGO8 folder, go into the content folder and the map goes into the map sub-folder. Also forget about the other fun stuff - they're gone. The black unlock with all the program names also has a calculator in it

No big deal. I haven't deleted or overwritten anything in the root of "My Computer". I have only removed the files in the 2.5 GB large /Storage Card area. Which I have in a backup and it also seems to be the exact same files as are on the MioMap 2 DVD.

You put the map in the wrong place. First of all, you are NOT using MioMap at all anymore.

Yeah, I realised that too.

[/QUOTE]You are now using iGO 8.3. Open the iGO8 folder, go into the content folder and the map goes into the map sub-folder.[/QUOTE]
I've had/have my Sweden map there the whole time.

Also forget about the other fun stuff - they're gone.

Ok, they never used them anyway.

This is where I ask the stupid, but necessary question: what "black unlock"?
I am still getting the regular blue MioMap background/interface with the spinning car.

Did I copy the chas_3.3 content to the wrong place? Should it be in "My Computer" and not in /Storage Card?
The wince explorer doesn't allow me to check the total space of My Computer, so I can't see if it will fit there (since it might only be a trick, luring me into believing that /Storage Card is a different device).

All of chas_3.3 is in/on /Storage Card.
The only thing on the SD Card is the dir iGO8, with your igo-package (which has an IGO8.exe and a miomap.exe of the same size/date but an application.dat of a different size/date) with a map of Sweden in the right dir.

Please tell me where you live so I can arrange to have you shot. LOL. My 3.3 download goes onto the internal flash drive, not the SD card.

Nah, I'll send you some cash to get lessons in English, mate ;-)

I've never had your 3.3 on the /SD Card (which is my 2 GB sdcard), always in /Storage Card (which is the internal 2.5 GB drive). You need to understand that the filesystem may differ somewhat from your 320. Thereby forcing me to name dirs that may not be exactly the same as in your hardware.

[EDIT] What I have never been able to tell is if / is a different place than /Storage Card.
I mean, if /Storage Card only is a subdirectory of /.

If it is, then your 3.3 shouldn't be in the dir /Storage Card, but actually instead all be moved out into /.

Just so you know, when you say Storage Card, it's universally known as the SD card. Are the map[s] now in the correct place? What's the latest?

EDIT: You better tell me it's working now or I'll start crying.

Here! Here's a box of tissues, my friend.

chas521 wrote:Just so you know, when you say Storage Card, it's universally known as the SD card.

Yes, that's why I have been so adamant in naming them both (StorageCard and SDCard) so you would understand that I a was not talking about the same thing all the time. Christ, I must have sounded like an idiot, if you thought I was copying files from the sdcard to the sdcard!

Are the map[s] now in the correct place?

This question has been answered several times (this is me trying not to sound like an ass, after you have tried to help me so much, but you often ask the wrong questions).

What's the latest?

I'm at the exact same place as before. I don't see any "black unlock with all the program names". I see the same interface as I have seen all along (apart from when I was using MioPocket). If I click Navigation it tells me there is "No map in SD or Flash".

I only ask you the "obvious" because I want to make sure that you have the basics correct. Remember, I don't have your device in front of me so I have to continually ask you. I know it's frustrating but keep your chin up.

Where did you get the map? Make sure it is for R3 [iGO 8.3] and not R1.

Checking map source. Pretty sure it was from the link you gave. brb

Sweden_83_TA_2010.06_100716
Crap, I can't find where I grabbed it.
[EDIT] AHA! This fbl and poi are part of the larger map collection below.

I also have this:
TeleAtlas 2010.Q2 - FULL EUROPE Dated 16/07/2010

You have a "save" folder in the igo folder. Delete it. Turn off your device, wait a couple of seconds and restart.

I think that I'm starting to see something. When you first start up your Mio device, you said it comes to a menu. What does the menu say? Is one of the choices "Miomap?" If so, press that.
