Still trying to fix dad's Mio Digiwalker 269+

chas521 wrote:You have a "save" folder in the igo folder. Delete it. Turn off your device, wait a couple of seconds and restart.

Did that, accomplished nothing. Same result, "no map in SD or Flash".

I think that I'm starting to see something. When you first start up your Mio device, you said it comes to a menu. What does the menu say? Is one of the choices "Miomap?" If so, press that.

No, it is the simple 4-icon menu: Navigation, Multimedia, Tools and Settings.

Clicking Navigation is where it tries to start some nav-prog, or whatever is in SD/miomap/miomap.exe. (If I rename your SD/iGO8 dir to SD/miomap I get the well-known "Application database not found" error.)

If I don't rename the dir (keep it as iGO8) I never see it start any navprog (which I did with the MioMapv2), I only get the NoMap-error.

The map error usually has to do with the license folder. But the license you downloaded is current and should work. The application error you were getting has to do with the path but you seem to have that under control.

I'm kinda stumped here. Anyone else have any ideas?

Remember, you backed up the previous version so you could always delete my stuff and reinstall v2.

EDIT: Is it possible for you to take a screenshot of your internal drive and post it here?17781779
This is my internal drive. Bigger one is the entire internal. Smaller one is when I open up the Miomap folder.

F***ing firefox decided to die on me when I had posted a lot of stuff here.

Trying again now.
First some photos of the gps' content.

1786
1787
1788
1789
1790

As you can see there are some folders in "\Storage Card\MIOMAP" that the gps has created itself (content, save).

More pictures.
1791
1792

Here are pictures of the "root" of the gps, "My Computer".
And also the root of "\Storage Card".

Two things.

1. I was thinking about the content of the SD, with the actual navigation program.
If I name the dir on the card to "miomap" and the nav-program's exe-file to "miomap.exe", then I can start it just by clicking on the Navigation icon in the menu that I see. Only problem is, I keep getting the error of it not finding the application database.
This is what it looks like:
1793

2. Why, oh why, don't I see the unlock screen you keep telling me about and that I expect is in those files I have copied to "\Storage Card".
I do nothing special when turning it to ON; I just wait till the final screen appears. It seems to boot twice (at least it shows the black screen with the bios/firmware name twice and it beeps twice).

[EDIT] Oh, sorry, I, of course, mean that I come to the regular setup screen, where I have to select language and set date and time!

As of yet no working navigation.
I tried running MioPocket and your iGO8 and a Primo (also from you I think), but nothing works.
iGO keeps slapping me with the app-dat-not-found error. As you said it must be either that it does not find the required files or they are the wrong ones.
Primo gave me some other error (at work and can't remember).

On a related note: I can use the same maps for Primo as for iGO8, right?

Neither of the navigation programs actually starts; they give me errors before starting.

I like TomTom better in that aspect (I use it on my Xperia X1 WindowsMobile); it at least starts and whines about the map later. That way you at least know that the application is working.

First of all, yes, you can use the same content for iGO 8.3 and Primo. In screenshot 3 above, you are showing flash disk. I thought it was called storage card. Is there any way you can copy ONLY the files/folders I give you in the 3.3 download and apply it per my screenshots? I'm just wondering if there is a conflict somewhere? You do not want MioPocket and the unlock on the same device because they do not work with each other. BTW, a new save folder is created every time. But not a content folder. The content folder only is created in the program download.

ok, good to know.

In screenshot 3 above, you are showing flash disk. I thought it was called storage card.

"My Flash Disk" and "Storage Card" are not the same thing. MFD is only 10 MB, while SC is 2.5 GB.

That's what I was thinking and commented on. I have no idea how much space I have in / (the root of "My Computer"). I will do the final backup of that content (I don't think it is particularly much). After that I will try to copy your 3.3 onto /.
[EDIT] Seems I can't backup all of /. System complains that I can't copy files in the ROM. I can't copy your 3.3 onto / either. There simply isn't enough space.

You do not want MioPocket and the unlock on the same device because they do not work with each other.

Ok. Though, I don't think I have ever seen the unlock run on my device.

BTW, a new save folder is created every time. But not a content folder. The content folder only is created in the program download.

Ok (I don't understand how it is relevant, but I say Ok for now).

It is pretty obvious that I can't copy anything large anywhere, if I don't put it in \Storage Card (which is the 2.5GB internal drive, not ROM). I will try to erase anything there and again only put your file there. I am pretty sure I did exactly this earlier, but I'll do it again nonetheless.

What annoys me is that I don't really need to unlock the device, since just renaming the iGO8 dir to miomap and the igo.exe to miomap.exe should be enough to use iGO as navigation program. Trying iGO8 I always get stuck on the "app data not found".

Trying to use Primo I get a crash.txt file with some what could be relevant error messages.
Code: Select all
...
WinCE CallStack snapshot (function names unknown - map file \SD Card\Primo\iGO.map not found):
...
Error message:

User interface resolution [320x240] is not supported or compatible skin can not be found.
Exiting application.
...

This is the same resolution error as the little window that pops up when trying to starrt it.

The sys.txt file I have for Primo is almost empty
Code: Select all
[device]
type="MIO269"

This is now a challenge and if there is a way to do, it will happen. The reason you're getting the application error is because the iGO 8.3 [not Primo] program I had you download is cracked not what you might buy from the manufacturer. Therefore you NEED the unlock. Take my word for it.

"My computer" is found in the windows system [to me anyway] not the GPS device. I have no idea why you are even referring to it. Your SD card has only the iGO 8.3 program on it and extracted like I instructed? You made the edit in the sys.txt?

Now, whatever you call it, the internal flash drive of the Mio 269+ itself will be completely empty except for my 3.3 download. Put in the SD card and start it up and then tell me what happened. D/l or copy my 3.3 to your computer first and using Total Commander copy my 3.3 to your internal flash of the Mio.

EDIT: Before you jump all over me for asking questions, you have to know that your thread is NOT the only thread I post in. So I have to ask those "silly" questions instead of reading the 35 individual posts.

Might be nothing to do with this here but there is a common bug on Windows Mobile where Windows "Sees" two storage cards when there is only one, When this happens you get various program/database not found error messages, I only say this because in your picture above you have "SDCard" and "Storage card". Usually a hard reset fixes it.

Thank you, Fatboyfun, for trying to help, but I'm pretty sure they are different. If I select them and check with Properties, they are of different size. If I browse them with the WinCeExplorer they have totally different content. Whatever I do to each of them does not affect the other.

@chas521 Thank you for not giving up on me. I will do a clean-up of both the Storage Card and the SD Card and do just that. I will also boot to Windows (7 Pro in my case) and use Total Commander with the WinCE plugin to see if it looks any different. So far I have only been accessing the SD Card on my computer, in Linux, and the Storage Card with the WinCeExplorer in /miomap/miomap.exe on the SD Card. But, it will be done tomorrow. Now, it's once again past my bedtime, 01:47.

If there's different content on each drive then your device is ok, It's when one drive is empty is when your problems start.

Reading thru sep1i posts. There is a lots or errors here and there.

1st - the term "sdcard" never appear in WinCe as a folder unless created or named during format.
2nd - miomap never works in storage card as the MioID.dll works only in Flash Disk.
3rd - Using Miopocket 4 - fails to edit device and application settings to the correct paths in MP settings.
4th - MP4 has software problems - you can't put your device to full sleep. Some settings will disappear when turn on again. The bug is not solved. Even Mio Moov can't work properly with MP4.
5th - most possible error - the sdcard was from another device and the contents just erase. It was not formatted before copying the files in.

Solution before installing any unlock program

1) Erase all Mp4 traces in your device and format your flash disk by FAT32. Some hidden remains if it is not formatted
2) Recopy the internal files back in full.
3) Have your sdcard formatted in FAT32 too. Do not named the card.
4) Have your softwares and maps copy in.
5) Put in the unlock program and run it clean for first time.

This will solve your problem with unlock software.

If you know dos path programming - then no unlock program is necessary for all Mio device.
You just need to create additional pages or windows to add in programs and software with correct mspaths to them.
Can't explain too much here for that.

It is good to use simple unlock program - It solve the problems of installing many navigation and software programs. But they do take up ram space and slows the processor.
I will recommend Brother chas521 program as your unlock program. Simple and easy.

Some pictures of my Mio Moov 380
Sorry badly taken by handphone

I think sep1i has messed up the settings of the MP4 moving the files around. If mass storage connection by usb cable to computer is not accessible - then his unit is bricked. I use MP4 once then my unit got bricked after 2 days. No one at another site was able to solve the matter. I really cracked my head for hours trying to solve it. Finally I got the answer - the usbscreen.exe is the only way out. Anyway MP4 is a good experience but yet to resolve some bugs inside.

I tried Dalanik Visual unlocked - frankly it was a very good program - but it boots up too slow and my unit mobile phone doesn't works properly. Very worth a try for those who are not programmers. Anyway thank to Dalanik - I got the inspiration of doing mspath edition for my Mio Moov after learning some details from his program and MP4.
The trick is to create a foul MioID.dll to bypass the mainshell.exe coding so that all applications will run as accordingly. So similar to iphone jailbreaking.

I don't think his device is bricked. If he goes to the Total Commander post link I gave him above [#13] and looks at the second program he might be able to work things out. I still think if he can get my 3.3 unlock download onto his Mio internal drive with nothing else on that internal drive, I think he might be there.
